Default ArticleBase and nofollow links

ArticleBase mentions it will add nofollow to all links in articles submitted to them. Yet, I still see many people recommended ArticleBase. Why spend time submitting to an article directory that isn't going to benefit you?

This is a good question.

I submitted an article to ArticleBase on Friday and had been approved last night. There had been no change to my ranking for certain keywords.

Well, lots of people submit articles not juts for the backlink benefit of it, but also for generating some traffic. Article base is a popular site and gets lots of traffic. Why not redirect some of that traffic to your site.

Also, keep in mind the famous "natural link building" thing that Google likes. Don't you think a site that gets backlinks from a mix of dofollow and nofollow sites looks more natural then one that gets backlinks only from dofollow sites?...

No-follow backlinks do benefit me.

And I'm hardly submitting to article directories for the benefit of their own backlinks anyway. That's not what article directories are there for. People submitting to article directories for the "benefit" of their own (non-context-relevant, PR-0) backlinks typically have far bigger problems than whether or not the backlinks are no-follow.

If people syndicate my articles from a directory (which is why they're there) to a relevant site in my own niche, that means I get targeted traffic from them, and a backlink which (unlike an article directory one) is actually worth something - and all that without even having to do the targeting or posting there myself. And that means opt-ins and sales. And it has nothing to do with whether the backlink in the directory from which they syndicated is no-follow.

I have the Firefox one-click toy to differentiate between them (the version 6.01 one seems to have installed itself in my Firefox now: it wasn't available when I first downloaded version 6.0) but I don't even check them when posting in directories or on people's blogs - simply not relevant to me and my business at all.

Many search engines seem to ignore "NoDoFollow" anyway.

Many people believe that Google doesn't discount "nofollow" as much as it sometimes claims: it's ambiguous at best.

There are many threads here explaining/discussing do-follow/no-follow links, if you're open to having a little re-think about them: this one might start you off, and then there's more here, here, here, here, here, and so on.

Because we don't do article marketing for SEO?

If a website can give us access to a human audience, then SEO doesn't actually matter.

When doing article marketing, my goals are:
  1. Access to a large audience via an authority website or newsletter;
  2. Access to smaller audiences through websites or newsletters;
  3. SEO.

Yes, SEO is the bottom of the barrel for me. It is the acquisition of last resort.

I want the SEO if I cannot get the audience, but give me an audience before SEO any day of the week.

Correct. Google wants to see a mixture of dofollow and nofollow links. All link building needs to be natural and organic.

Articlebase itself has a huge readership...and it allows their readers to repost your articles..so if your article has good information, those readers will wish to take your content and post it on their website..in this way, you content is spread over the internet...
