Default Seo Advice needed about dual websites

Hi I hope you are well thanks for stopping by
I build my client a website
I did all the seo I know
I never cheat google I just give them quality content and use multiple methods of gaining backlinks
I quickly got him to number one for all his search terms.
He had an old website and he dropped all the content and redirected the url to the website I built.
Today I have 320 odd pages listed but they are nowhere to be found.
From 1 for everyterm to no where.
I am at a loss all I can think is the redirect has told google these websites are not to be trusted.
When I use logic it would be simple for a company like Ford or IBM to create multiple websites and take the top 10 web listings for there area of expertise.
Obviousl google would not like this.
I am backlinking my way out of this nightmare (hopefully)
Any thoughts greatly apreciated
Cheers
Andrew

Did you check if the new site is indexed by Google?

The old website has now been deindexed
I have never droped from 1 to nothing in such a short space of time
Frustrating because he has gone from the penthouse to the outhouse in a few days
He was number one for 7 months and had a pr of 3 (still has) so google must still hae trust.
Was not wise to take down the old website and then redirect it to the new one.
I am trying to backlink out of it.

I would ask this question in the "SEO section," but tell me this: what kind of keywords are you targeting (competition and search results), who are your competitors, and what kind of backlinking are you doing?
