Have your targeted keyword in the title only, that's it.

When it comes to search engine optimization, the single most important sentence that you will write for your website is the title tag of your main page. If you write it properly then you will have taken a big step towards getting your site well placed in search engine queries for your important keywords.

So should the keywords be placed on all the titles website pages then or should the other pages just have titles related to what content is on them then?

It depends what you want to rank.

Usually, you have one page/article you want to rank for one keyword and other pages with other keywords.

It wouldn't make sense to go for the same keywords on ALL your pages, wouldn't it?

You need to search first.
Find the best keyword that have this criteria: low competition, high search volume, maybe (if you are adsenser) high CPC.

After that, place the main keyword and second keyword at the blog title. Use (-) for separator.

Top Ten Title Tag Tips:
  1. First – and this cannot be overstated – think about what your prospects and visitors are looking for. Craft your page content, your keyword use and your title tags to match.
  2. Spend a little time and make good use of your title tags. No one publishes a book or a song or a movie without putting some thought into the title. Web pages are no different. Each page is unique, yes? Then each page deserves a unique title tag that accurately describes the content of the page.
  3. Whenever possible, ensure each page has a unique title tag. Repetition is bad.
  4. Make sure the text you’re talking about in your title tag is actually represented in your content. Delicious cookies in the title tag = Delicious cookies in the page text.
  5. Consider including synonyms and variations of your chosen key terms, i.e., tee-shirt and T-shirt.
  6. Keep “prominence” in mind. This is an old trick, in which the most important keywords go before the less important ones. If chocolate chip cookies are the biggest keyword attractor to your page, make sure you mention chocolate chip before peanut butter or any other cookie.
  7. Spread your keywords out. Don’t endlessly repeat the same keywords everywhere you can and don’t go overboard with keyword stuffing.
  8. Is your title tag too long? Anything over 65 characters (give or take a few) will get truncated by ellipses. Nobody likes to be cut off in mid sentence. Keep it short.
  9. Not sure how the overall message looks to the average reader? Puzzled by keyword selection? Ask someone to look at your site and have them tell you what your content is all about. A fresh pair of eyes will serve you well.
  10. Think about the keywords for which your page will likely rank. Are these the keywords you want? If not – make changes sooner than later.

Here are good practices (from Google) for page title tags:

• Accurately describe the page's content - Choose a title that effectively communicates the topic of the page's content.
• Create unique title tags for each page - Each of your pages should ideally have a unique
title tag, which helps Google know how the page is distinct from the others on your site.
• Use brief, but descriptive titles - Titles can be both short and informative. If the title is too long, Google will show only a portion of it in the search result.

Avoid:
• choosing a title that has no relation to the content on the page
• using default or vague titles like "Untitled" or "New Page 1"
• using a single title tag across all of your site's pages or a large group of pages
• using extremely lengthy titles that are unhelpful to users
• stuffing unneeded keywords in your title tags

Hope this will help.

Looking for a quick fix that will improve your rankings? Take a look at your title tags. A title tag is the line of text that is normally displayed at the top of the browser window. Title tags are arguably the most important SEO tags for any site.

For most search engines, the maximum length of a title tag to be displayed is between 60-70 characters. If your title tag is over 70 characters, your title will be cut off around 70 characters on the search results page.

Search engine spiders use these title tags as the main source for determining the page topic. Spiders or crawlers examine the title and then translate the topic of the page. This is one reason why it is always best to use your keywords in the page title, and to place them as close to the beginning of the title as possible. Remember, the text included in the title tag is also the text that will appear in the SERPs (search engine results pages) as the linked title on which users will click to access your page. In fact, just fixing the title tags of your pages can often generate quick and significant improvements in your rankings.

For example, let’s say you have an educational site that provides information and guidelines on teacher certification requirements. You’ve decided that the most important keywords for your site are “teaching certification” and “teaching requirements.” In this case, a page title along the lines of “Teaching Requirements for Teacher Certification” is highly relevant to the topic of the site. Spiders will crawl your site, and because the title is the first factor it sees, the spider will “read” it and then examine the rest of the page finding the keywords used in other places on the page to determine how relevant the title is to the rest of the content. If the content, H tags, and title tag all relate—you’re in business! This is why it’s so important to target the most critical keywords in the title tag.

Follow this same process for all of your pages, and remember to create unique titles that are relevant to each page and do not keyword stuff. This greatly improves the effectiveness of those tags and will increase the search engine rankings for your keywords. Although your home page might show up for 20 or 30 different keyword combinations, only your top two or three keyword phrases should be included in the tittle.

Put your targeted keywords in title tag as well as in meta description tag. That's the only thing to take care when writing the title tag.

A title tag is the main text that describes an online document. It is the single most important on-page SEO element and appears in three key places that normally appears at the title bar of the browser window. Setting the title tag is the most important method of SEO for any website or blog

Your title tags should not only tell the SEs what your site is about, but ought to also speak to your visitors. Always put your main keyword for the page right to the beginning of the title, followed by something that can increase CTRs to your site from the SERPs. Be creative.
