Default Special characters in title tag ?

I have seen most of seo experts use piping and commas for separating keywords like this

1. seo services,seo company,seo consultants

2. seo services | seo company | seo consultants

3. seo services seo company seo consultants

what do these characters means and what to use?

In my observation, special characters are simply used to separate words. Because we are most likely putting our keywords in the title tag, so think of putting your keywords without using special characters, would be awkward.

Well these characters are seen as being separators by Google. Matt Cutts has said that you can use any of the separators (Like comma, pipes, dashes ) in your Title Tag except for the underscore “_” separator.

We should focus on creating the title tags that effectively communicates the topic of the page's content. You should create unique title tags for each page.

You are actually asking about Title Tags right? So, in title tags, special characters like comma or dashes are recognize and included by Google.

But when it comes to meta keywords , (commas, dashes, pipes) it serves as keyword separator so that Google crawlers will be able to recognized what your keywords on that web page are.

1 and 2 uses special characters like commas and | , so it can be said by bots that such page has 3 keywords

While your number 3 has no separator, which in return, bots will consider all of those keywords to be ONE.
