penalized website still getting organic traffic

My website was penalized about a week ago, but somehow I see that I'm still getting visitors trickling in from the keywords that I was penalized for. Checking my serps I'm somewhere in the void (50th page or something)

How can this be?

how could you be still on 50th page if you got no index for your website (i am talking about google)
