Anyone notice this...More Google pages?

Has anyone else noticed a big change in Google? It used to be when you did a search it didn't matter if there were 2,000 or 500,000 results, Google would really only show up to 1000 results.

Now, if you click on Page 10 at the bottom of the SERPs, Google will list another 10 pages of SERPs. Click on page 20 and Google will show another 10 pages of SERPs...etc...etc...

I'm not sure of the signifigance of this yet (if there is any), but I found it an interesting change. I wonder why Google decided to change this?

I'm 99.99% sure it's always done that.

Agreed - I can remember going far beyond 10 pages in the past (especially when I had keywords ranking 170th or something far out like that).

I don't believe so. I use to check and the results would usually end around 350-850 or so.

This was even a strategy used by some to determine competition for a keyword by seeing how many sites were actually shown by google for the keywords instead of using the "About 33,500,000 results" figure.

I don't know which Google you are using, but the Google I'm using is behaving as it always did, ie: shows a maximum of 999 results (99 pages).

As an example, I searched for

cars

this reports 1,940,000,000 results.

And when you get to page 91, you see the usual message:

In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 912 already displayed.

Sometimes I too dumb to live...I'm used to having Google set to display 100 results per page, but only had it set to show 10 results per page.
