The biggest frustration is that they expect a couple of links to bring them to the top position for competitive keywords like car insurance etc.

LOL. I am not joking, this has actually happened.

I guess managing customer expectations is key to any business.

the problem is that they compare you with others not knowingly what they want themselves..lol

this can be very stressful when they keep asking question and suddenly you never hear from them..haha

If there is competition in client's websites then competition is also in SEO field as well. So clients give so less money because there are a lot of freelancers.

I have my own SEO company. I also work full-time as a Data Center Supervisor. Last year, I was working 40 hours + at the Data Center and 40+ hours optimizing client's websites. I had to dwindle it down. Now I only have two clients and working a whole lot less.

Yes - they expect way too much. I tell them that (organically) - it will take them six to eight months to get ranked in a competitive niche and they have to be patient. After the second month - with seeing results - but their KWs only on the second page - they start squealing like a pig. I tell them to be patient - but they aren't. That's when I introduce Adwords to them. LOL!

The problem is competitors .Clients will also compare results with their direct competitors !

I think seo is doing great if the work is on the hardes way i think its a great work done.Competitors can be managed.

in average, how much do you cost the client? (the range, e.g 10$ per keyword etc)

what i have seen is they are not satisfied with traffic coming to website after giving unexpected traffic to website every month they are expecting 20 percent hike each month and sometimes if we give 10-15% hike they are not satisfied.

situations like this is a kind of frustation.

Biggest frustration to me is when a customer expects you to overdeliver each time around, which may not be possible due to cost constraints

Managing customers expectation are always the biggest pain for me. You know, like wanted to rank for a competitive keywords over night.
