An example of a keyword phrase, "raw food diet for beginners"

If exact domain name and all common extensions are taken. Which domain name will Google like better?

raw-food-diet-for-beginners.com
or
rawfooddiet4beginners.com

I find domain name with dash harder to rank as compared to ones without the dash...however, you do not have the exact domain name though because you use 4 instead of for....

I suggest just add suffix like info, guide etc.

keywords in domain do bring effect in seo but not so much anymore.

if you can think of a good name, use that instead of trying to fit your keywords there.

It seems quite self-explanatory to me. I wanted to know what arrangement search engines like best when selecting a domain. What exactly do you want to know?

rawfooddiet4beginners.com is better from user point of view and search engine as well.

rawfooddiet4beginners.com is not the best choise, maybe there is free domain name without number 4. for example rawfooddiet-beginners.com.
