Easy To Outrank (...).toptenreviews.com ?

I am competing for a keyword where toptenreviews.com ranks number one for from a sub domain, and I was wondering if they were outrabkable (realisticly).

Lets say I am copeting for a keyowrd with my whole websute revolved around this keyword which is 4 words long. If (...).toptenreviews.com is first (which is obviously a BIG site), would I be able to outrank it with a bit of link building (upto PR 2)?

Let first do the basic work by finding the age, pagerank and alexa rank of toptenreviews.

It has a PR of 7, Alexa rank of 1,867 and have been online for 8 years.

Thought these numbers look really harsh to competive, I would say that with some link building and fresh content updating, you should systematically beat toptenreviews for a 4 word keyword if your domain is that four keyword word in a couple of weeks.'

Ok thanks. But it isn't the actual main domain Im competing with, it's a subdomain.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? I have a few keywords that I want to use but toptenreviews.com is also ranking #1 for those. I know they have a high page rank level and are aged but would you say its easy or difficult to beat them out? Traffic Travis tells me its medium difficulty.

I think you can outrank them with exact match keyword domain and good backlinks.

OP Do this:

1) Search Google intitle:"keyword" site:www.toptenreviews.com how many pages are they trying to rank for your keyword?

Example: intitle:"car insurance" site:toptenreviews.com

2) Get SeoSpyglass (free version will work), run the URL that is ranking in Google SERP, sort by keyword anchor-text, how serious are they they about ranking their page in the SERPs?

I had them beat for a few weeks until I got hit with duplicate content penalty I didn't notice before. Still trying to recover. I would say yes they can be beat with good backlinks. Just make sure keyword is worth the money.

Subdomains do not carry the power of the regular domain (example: blogger/wordpress blogs). So I think you definitely could outrank them if you build a lot of good, quality, backlinks!

Yes, it's definitely possible. I've done it for 'employee scheduling software' before I sold the business.
