Default Keywords (Helpful Info For Beginners)

First of all, what are keywords?

A Keyword is a phrase typed into Google (or any other search engine) When you are looking for something in particular.

For example- If you are looking for Cheap flights, you might type in "Cheap Flights". In this case "Cheap Flights" is a Keyword. If you are looking into making money online, You may enter "How to Make Money Online" in this case "How To Make Money Online" is a Keyword.

You use keywords all the time-whether you were aware of it or not. Every time you conduct a search-you use Keywords.

Although the correct term is Keyword-a Keyword can actually contain a few words.

For Example- although "How to Make Money Online" has FIVE words, it is counted as ONE Keyword.

Long Tail and Short Tail Keywords

You may of heard of long and short tail keyword. If you haven't you soon will.

They refer to how many actual words are in the keyword

For example, lets imagine you go to google and search "Cheap flights and accommodation to Amsterdam for students"

This is counted as a Long tail- as there are 8 actual words that you type.

This means that the results will be more focused than if you type "fights accommodation Amsterdam"

This second example is know as Short tail keyword- as there are only 3 actual words.

Now...here's the thing.

You will get more results fort tail keywords but there will also be more competition.

The secret is to find popular LONG tail keywords, that do not have that much competition.

The idea being, it is much better to get Some traffic from a keyword that may not have quite as many searches, Than NO traffic from a keyword that is SO competitive you don't stand a chance of ever getting noticed.

How do I Find keywords?

So how do you determine the best keywords to describe your site? The bottom line is, you have to think like a searcher.

Let's use your own site as an example (or your eventual site if you haven't created it yet)

What is the theme of your site? What is its subject matter? What product or service are you offering?

Take a step back, and ask yourself, if you were looking for a site such as yours, which words would you type into a search engine?

Of course you will be able to think of a few, but they may not be the best. You need to figure out the most effective keywords.

There are many tools on the web that can help you.

I hope there is a little info there that someone can kind helpful. It took me awhile to understand Keywords so that's why I posted this.

Good luck to Everyone.

Regards

Hans

Pay attention all the new comers. Someone has taken a lot of effort in putting down this article and it is really helpful as it has stuff from a load of different places. If you think that you have what it takes and want to make it big then you should start paying attention to what has been written.

Anyone getting into Internet marketing, or already in and failing to get free search traffic should read Han's post, and then read it again, and then copy into a document to read over and over! Well thought out and strategic ideas are presented. Ignore the facts about the competition and your site will be "lonely"!

A gold star to Hans.
