how do i check my competitions backlinks page rank.I no there are a few plugins but i cant check a thousand plus manually??

SEO SpyGlass will do it.

You could use scrapebox if you have it, simply scrape all their backlinks and do a PR check with scrapebox on his links.

You certainly can use Scrapebox, however, SpyGlass will pull backlinks from a lot more sources.
