Default What is the best strategy to earn from this type of keyword?

Okay, here are the specifics:
  • according to the GAKT, the KW gets around 40K exact match local monthly searches
  • CPC is less than $1
  • very low advertiser competition (which explains why there are only 1 or 2 ads that show in Google search pages for the keyword
Obviously, Adsense is not the way to go for this KW. How then to best monetize this kind of keyword? Amazon? Clickbank?

The niche is related to the broad hair niche, by the way.

Also, any recommendations on how best to build a list on this?

First page competition on Google looks promising, although I reckon it's going to take some time and a bit of serious work.

I'd appreciate to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks!

You can still monetize that pretty easy with Adsense plus a higher CPC keyword.

Use the low CPC keyword for driving traffic to a high CPC keyword page that is related to the traffic keyword.

On the low CPC (high traffic) page, do not include Adsense on that page (hear me out). Make the low CPC traffic page very short If it's articles that you use for content, make it maybe a paragraph for total text. At the bottom of that paragraph promote the high CPC keyword page that includes your Adsense Ads.

The goal is to herd the traffic into the higher CPC page. Don't give them very many escape routes (links) on the higher CPC traffic page.

Like placing links there pointing to the high CPC keyword articles/posts/pages?

Exactly!

You can rank for low competition high traffic keywords (way easier) in the SERPs & drive that traffic to higher paying pages.

Another trick is to set the page up so that you gather traffic with the lower paying keyword (like I already said), & turn that single article into a multiple page article, each page with maybe 4-500 words per page.

So, you have a single high traffic low cpc (easier to rank) keyword bringing in traffic, that will be passed on to the higher paying keyword pages that you really don't care If they rank in the SERPs or not.

You could have a single article broken up into 7 pages. The first page (keep it short) is for gathering traffic (easy to rank), the next 6 pages are higher paying related keywords, keep Adsense on the higher paying keyword pages only.

I wouldn't have Adsense on the high traffic page, save that for when you pass the traffic off to higher paying pages.

Rank the easy keywords, pass the traffic to the higher paying keyword pages.

So you might have a 2,800 word article broken up into 7 pages. The first page keyword is car payment calculator (low comp keyword = 110,000 per month traffic), then move that traffic to the next pages that might target a higher paying keyword like car insurance.

You wouldn't dare waste your time trying to rank for the keyword car insurance, still you can get payed for the keyword car insurance without ever caring If the car insurance page ever ranks in the SERPs or not.

Bring the traffic in the front door (easy to rank keyword) take them out the backdoor (competitive keyword page).

It's also a brilliant way to sink Adsense. Because, if the advertiser sees he gets such low-keyword traffic (and no results on sales), he is not that eager to pay Google any more. That's why Google probably is not very happy with this tactics ;-)

A lot of people running Adsense think they have to have Adsense on every single page to make money.

The hardest part for most would be they think they'll lose money with Adsense If the first high traffic easy to rank page doesn't include Adsense, which is just not true.

I have sites that get 5-7 page views from most traffic, that's 4-6 chances to get a high paying Adsense Ad in front of the traffic without ever ranking the high SERP competition keyword/page.

Take easy traffic & convert with higher paying Adsense Ads.

Wrong!

A guy looking for a tutorial how to fix his broken down Ford F-150 most likely needs truck insurance. Even If he already has truck insurance, something with a lower insurance premium almost always exist.

Rank the Ford F-150 page (example SERP keyword:fix ford f150 brakes)

Drive the Ford F-150 traffic to the truck insurance page, when they are finished reading the truck tutorial. Or, work the truck insurance into the 2nd page of a 2-page tutorial.

I never said don't provide the traffic with what their looking for. In this example some guy is trying to learn how to fix his Ford truck. You don't have to include Adsense on the fix ford f150 brakes traffic page, that's up to the webmaster.

Most people won't bother with this technique anyways, because they are scared the will lose a $0.75 click on the fix ford f150 brakes page. Keep the $0.75 I'll be busy getting the $5.00 clicks on the truck insurance type pages, without even trying to rank the page in the SERPs. Who cares If the high competition keyword page ranks, as long as you get the clicks from pre-qualified traffic?
