SEO strategies for MEDIUM / SEO businesses?

I see that for most small businesses, I know most are into BlueFart (no offense), spamming, commenting, massive article submission (poorly written) etc.

But what about medium-big businesses, i dont think they do lots of article submissions / spamming etc. like the small businesses. So what they do in general to build backlinks etc.?

Big businesses like DELL, WALMART etc.

Spend tons of cash with large SEO firms.

Big business websites receives lots of backlink juices from tons of authority and small niche sites for free. For ex - you can find the URL of DELL on thousands of small niche and authority websites related targeting laptop and other similar keywords.

So what do they do to get themselves placed even HIGHER?
or do they not do anything else and wait for other sites to link back to them 'naturally'?

They create link bait and produce viral brand messages. It costs big money but if it works they get alot of naturally occourring links and traffic

Most of the big sites like Dell and Samsung do not spend money on SEO but they spend millions on advertising. Magazine, newspaper and technical sites write articles about them and they get natural backlink benefits.

Another good example is the online casino business. Just like other big companies, they don't have to spend millions of dollars in doing SEO for their websites. Samsung and Dell spend millions of dollars in advertising. And so as the online casinos.

You can also find lots of blogs and other articles regarding internet gambling businesses and those casino sites are getting a big profit from them.
