Number 1 on Google For the hardest keyword on earth in 2 months ?? HOW DO THEY DO IT ??

#1) This is not even close to the hardest keyword on earth.

#2) This actually happens quite a bit, even for really hard keywords. Check back in a month or 2, and this site will PROBABLY not be on page 1, or even in the top 50.

We rank for a couple phrases that are quite a bit harder than the above keyword, and we see crappy sites like these go into page 1...then are gone after a few weeks, never to return. Once you get ranked for these kinds of phrases, you become a target for the manual police - and sites like these do not pass manual inspection - rarely if ever.

I am ranking for a 2 word phrase on the top of the 2nd page for a competitive keyword and my site gets a whole lot of traffic... I have actually decided to not do any SEO work on that phrase because of the current results.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news...but,

'how to lose weight fast' gets nowhere near 100-200k searches per month. Google's estimator is WAY off on that one. I do know this from hands on experience with that exact keyword, so I'm not blowing smoke here.

I'm sure that site is making some money - but I don't think it's as much as everyone here thinks it is if you saw the actual traffic from it =)

actually before that thread was deleted a guy came on saying he was the one that owned the site and he wasn't making money (majorly ticked it was being talked about though) which is hardly surprising if he wasn't since the site only made money if people filled out a multiple page form. Bounce rate on those pages is high.

I'll disagree with you though . To me Its a foolish use of a network. There are plenty of networks you can get mad traffic for at the top of serps where it would not suffer the same fate it would with car insurance. In that serp he would eventually be reported given the high profile.

Nonsense. You just didn't know how to efficiently get off of the second page (and despite the fact that your stated strategy is to rank in serps no one else targets). I am the previous owner of a site which i ranked #2 in Google UK for "lose weight" and "lose weight fast" (NOT the site in my sig). I am also on page #1 in Google.com for "lose weight".

YES, i also *thought* this is the hardest keyword on Earth, but i managed it to rank and it was ratehr EFFORTLESSLY and i did not spend money on SEO.

The key was a good site/design/unique content - and then CONSISTENCY in backlinks and articles etc.

BY THE WAY: "lose weight" and "lose weight fast" are PROBABLY the most over-rated keywords EVER. Don't even remotely think that ranking for that KW #2 in Google will make you a millionaire - FAR FROM THE TRUTH.

There are keywords which are FAR better than "lose weight", some long tails in that niche. "Lose weight" will give you very bad bounce rate and hardly conversion if you only shoot for this keyword. It's more a "bragging thing" than a real life money maker.

YOU CAN rank for such keywords if you try to make an authority site covering many related and Google relevant keywords - with decent content and then linking to your content/articles. You probably cant do it in a 2 months...but it IS doable.

"COMPETITION" only exists in your mind!! <-- i am dead serious!

As to answer your question...the domain name...and the fact that "how to lose weight fast" is already a long tail keyword..5 words...it IS easy to rank (i am serious again) if you don't do stupid things. I dont know about 2 months tho..but all long tails are rather easy.

Its a research keyword not necessarily a buying one. People rarely draw the difference and yes looking at it closer it is really a weak first page. Still a number one or two in the niche is not too shabby even if its not quite up to the hype of the hardest keyword.

Stop reading & start testing how things really work with the SERPs.

I'm in the download niche & real traffic will dig in the SERPs until they find what they want, that's real testing & not some lame seo blog or WSO.

When people shop for insurance they won't stop at the first result that's just silly, they shop around for insurance. Sure #1 gets great traffic (I think I already said that), I'm very sure If someone bumped Geico from #1 that they would have everyone & their brother breathing down their neck.

Man it's crazy what people will believe from a WSO or an seo blog.

I merely linked to that because its a solid piece that should have far more credibility than any poster at WF and that would definitely include you and I. And IMHO, I think when someone make it to the top of a highly searched term like this, and even if it's not a buying keyword he should have a highly converting squeeze page in place,

So even if you dropped after a few weeks you would still have a decent asset which is the list ...

So did you do all the consistent backlinking yourself since you didn't spend money on SEO?

Ballpark how many links per day did you complete? And How long before you got to the first page?

when i made that site approx 2 years ago i didn't dream that i will ever rank remotely anywhere near page #1 - let alone for "lose weight" or "lose weight fast".
I made the site and did a few article submissions and then did *nothing* with the site for 6-10 months. In other words: I let it sit.

Then i discovered i was starting to rank page #4 or something and realized i can do it. I submitted more content to the site.

What i did in terms of link building:

I started out with blog networks like seolinkvine, articleranks where i submitted maybe one article a week. (Later on i stopped seolinkvine since not satisfied with the result). I switched to authority link network.

I did occasional submissions on article directories and several blasts with Article Marketing Robot (link to my blog, i cover AMR a few times there) - and i occasionally used Seo software like xgenseo.

I think i also hired a few guys from fiverr for senuke blasts. But the main "work" was mainly my submissions to blog networks like authority link network.

I don't count my backlinks so i dont have numbers how many links i made per day or week...i just know that some people commented me they were baffled by the huge number of backlinks the site had. But in terms of SEO it was really nothing out of the ordinary, i didnt buy links and didnt buy "high PR" links or anything similar)

The whole process..lasted "several months"....approx. 4+ months *after* i discovered i made it to page #4 or so in Google after that time period where i didnt do anything with the site.

You are party right - even if you are on 2nd page you will be getting traffic but not as much as on 1st page and the difference will be dramaticall.

Does everyone knows that the Google search results vary ( for sure ) depending where are you localy searching from ( Google has lots of local servers that returns the information depending on your position) ?!
Example : if someone from UK search for top rated car insurance it will return one result different than another one from US

Is there no buying urgency in that keyword?

Let me put it another way, if the keyword was "how to lose weight sometime in the next year or so when I can be bothered" then yeah, maybe the audience has some time to really research it.

This is a highly targeted keyword.

If this guy spent $200 a month to be ranked for YES, the #1 keyword in the weight loss niche, he will make that over and over again just with the list he is building.

I am not sure about insurance (as people shop around) but I know from experience that a site ranking at position 7/8 of first page of Google with 90K searches a month gets only a few 100s visitors per month.

The claimed owner of car insurance says he gets around 50+ visitors a day before that thread was deleted.

The top ranking site in that keyword has so few backlinks, it shouldn't even appear on first page. There's quite a big movement in SERPS right now except for authority sites.
