Default Domains and Keywords

Hi there Warriors,
When choosing Domain names for niche adsense blogs / sites, what is the best strategy to get any chance of bringing traffic to a site?
Do i need a domain that matches a high cpc keyword group?
Most domains are taken for all these highly ranked keywords.
I am using keyword tool, and i believe i have to only use exact keyword match and look for about 1000 Local searches PM, not Global. Yes the Broad search monthhly figure is always huge by comparison. I am eager to set up some adsense blogs and need helpful advice on this.
Many thanks!

It helps if you have the keywords you want to rank for somewhere within the URL. You can also use dashes, ie; widescreen-tv, or best-widescreen-tv etc...

I find serial numbers work well too - such as the serial number of a TV or physical product.

Also I use a piece of software to do most of my keyword analysis

PM me for info.

Regards

Rob

This works very well!

It is also a good idea to do keyword research well - I would check out Niche Finder by Brad Callen it is awesome.

You could go for the highly competitive keywords but as you probably know, the domain name is only one factor in SEO.

The reason for using an EMD of course is to get your main keyword into your site's URL. Have you chosen the main keyword for your niche?

If your main keyword is too competetive to rank for, you might want to think about narrowing down your niche anyway. You could go for it and use more useful keywords in page titles of your posts but if you are not going to try to rank for your main keyword, what would be the point of having it in your URL? (of course, there is a chance you might rank for it anyway as your site gains authority)

one method i just tried successfully was

-find a keyword with over exact 1000 local searches/month and has no instance of the keyword in the showing results for google's first page - this takes time but is easier than you think.
-get a .com/.org/.net EMD
-write a long article (900+ words) on the first page optimized for keyword
-add other posts (500+ words) and tags to get your indexed pages up
-do some social bookmarking everyday using anchor text
-use blog commenting everyday
-get 10 free BMR posts with anchor text and drip them one per day

I hit page one in about two weeks and am #3 currently

I agree with Jack of Spades. And don't do the dashes, a recent survey I saw said that people don't really go for the site with dashes. .com .net .org are the way to go.

If you want to see your site get to #1 fast do a local keyword search with a city name. Then do everything that Spades said.

I have looked at Domain names ALOT in the past month, I have probably pulled up thousands and thousands of sites urls analyzing the top ten

sure if you get EMD. yourkeyword.com .net or .org thats GREAT
but
alas most of the time these are gone by domain squatters who do nothing with them except kidnap them hoping to sell them for a million dollars

I just as often see
Blue-widgets.com
as I do
Bluewidgets.com .net or .org

just as often I also see top 10s with
mybluewidgets.com
bluewidgetsrx.com
bluewidgetssite.com
freebluewidgets.com

etc etc etc
or
also
bluewidgets.co.uk
bluewidgets.me
bluewidgets.info

Now notice these are all blue widgets in the DOMAIN name, which I do think gives a big boost
the best of course
is
bluewidgets.com but blue-widgets.com seems to rank just as easily although not as high

I do think however it is important to have the kw IN the domain, and IMO a variation of the .com name is the easiest for me, otherwise its confusing and most of the time with good kws the good ones are all gone anyways

It is really quite hard to tell because these things are very hard to measure, isn't it?

In any case, I used dashes for a domain, and it is well up in Google firstpage.

If it's a bit scary for you, I suggest just make sure that the EXACT KEYWORDS are in the domain and DO NOT use Google stop words to separate them.

In other words, if you want to make bluewidgets.com, but found it unavailable, do NOT use blueANDwidgets.com. Not only does it sound silly, but I'm assuming that your priority is those who search you up with EXACT searches, and that will ruin your results.

Dashes will not negatively impact your SERPs. Some think they make the domain easier to decypher. I use them on some domains, and my best performing site (in search results) has dashes in the domain.
