I created a web site targeting a highly competitive niche and promoted it like crazy for 1 month. My Alexa ranking went from 28 million in the first week to 3.5 million in the fourth week. Does that mean anything? Will it help me rank better on Google if my Alexa ranking keeps improving?

Your Alexa rating will usually get better once you get your website going and start adding fresh content, but sometimes if you get lazy and let your site go, the rating will get worse. The goal for most webmasters is 100,000 and below. A lower Alexa rating is good because it shows others that your website receives good traffic and ranks well on the internet. This is especially good when you are looking to sell advertising space or to sell your website altogether. Buyers/advertisers love Alexa ratings that are low. I'm not sure about the Google rank question. Just continue to work on your website, create backlinks, do your daily SEO, and improve your content. I have some sites that started at 20 million + and are now 300,000 and below. So it can be done with some work. |

It is utterly meaningless unless you are trying to sell the site to someone who is clueless. Real traffic stats are much better.

I never look at alexa rankings. As long as my keywords are ranking well then what else do I need?

Alexa Rank doesn't have any relation with SERPs of your site. It just a measure of traffic of your website, Whose have installed Alexa toolbar on his browser...

I think it is pretty important. If you have a good alexa rank it means you're doing well in terms of traffic. Alexa isn't a perfect system like most others but it gives you a pretty good idea.

Basically an Alexa ranking is not important. Having a high or low Alexa ranking does not help a site one bit, unless you want to use it to impress people who are impressed by this sort of thing, but do not understand it.

Don't give too much attention on Alexa ranking. Though it gives you the approximate average of traffic that your site is receiving, it sometimes becomes inaccurate. I'm not saying that Alexa ranking is useless. You can still rely on this but not too much. |

I'll chime in here. Yes, we all know Alexa is not important to us but in reality we are not the ones that matter. When business look to advertise on a website, they WILL use Alexa. In this case it does not matter what we think. The problem is that we are looking at it from our perspective and not the ones that matter most, the advertiser. Get outside the group mentality and circle and look at it from the other side. On another note, Alexa does not accurately measure traffic. It only measures if one has the toolbar installed which means sites with less traffic can rank higher. |

Alexa Rank doesn't mean anything. To rank high in Google go for a high Google Page Rank, sites with a high Google Page Rank have more worth and value as compared to sites that have a high Alexa Rank.

Well, Alexa rank doesn't have any relation with SERPs. I think you should be more focused on SERPs as compared to alexa rank. SERPs draw business not alexa rank...
