Default Global Monthly Searches VERSUS Local Monthly Searches

Quick question. If I go to google keyword tool, check 'exact', and put 'United states' as country, if I get 10000 in local and 20000 in global for the word 'banana', it means that every month on average, 10000 searches are ,ade using the word `banana` (and only banana, no 'banana split' or any other combination -because I checked EXACT- in the US, and 20000 globally (us + rest of the world). Is this correct?

Yes, exact means specifically that keyword and nothing else. Local would represent the exact (no variations) in the US and Global would represent the exact (no variations) in the world.
