Does having duplicate content in a page you don't want to rank affect ranking of the site ?

Hi everybody
I'm building backlinks to my homepage and i added content in another pages in the site but it's duplicate content

does having duplicate content in this page will affect ranking of the homepage or any other page in the site i want to rank ?

yes, it`s very important to don`t have duplicated content and has big meaning on your`s serts results...so better change it

Even if this duplicate content in a page that i don't want to rank ?

Google does not look at pages and try to figure out which "you want to rank" and which "you don't want to rank". They are all the same. Unless you are blocking the search engines from seeing the page, it will most likely be indexed eventually.

When you say duplicate content, you mean that you have the exact same content on another page of your site, right?

You are not talking about content you scraped from another source?

You definitely shouldn't do that but if your interested in ranking it you can just set up robots. to not crawl that page and should solve it.

That's not duplicate content then.

Duplicate content is when you put the same content multiple times on the same domain.

Yes it is Duplicate Content. Because If the Resource From Where You Copied is already Indexed in google Then Google Count this as a Duplicate Content.

So this is Not good For Your Website.

You are completely wrong.

If you were right, then every news agency's website would get hammered by Google. The all publish the same articles from the associated press every single day.

Duplicate content is putting the same content repeatedly on one domain.

lalibansal's right, Mike. Google tries to figure out who is the original author. The little guy suffers, Google Killed the Content Farms, But Didn't Kill Corporate Content Farming, because we can't pay for the big bucks. Anyways. If you want to de-dupe your site without losing pages

or use canonical links

[ link rel="canonical" href="http://www.example.com/product.php?item=swedish-fish" /]

If you don't de-dupe, Google Panda will pound you like your a young bamboo sapling.
