Easy to outrank CNET?

A keyword I want to rank for has CNET at the top, below is pc mag, and below that is amazon. CNET only has 30 backlinks to that page but a pretty well optimized on page. Is it possible to get no.1 position for this? If so, how long do you think that would take?

I dont like SEO optimized pages on top 10 sites I want to outrank

, I dont get my hopes up
since its so easy to SEO my pages and if they DONT, I think great

if they do, that takes a huge trump card out of my hands, now I am left with what?
backlinks? well I have a feeling if their domain is aged and high PR, that site having 1000 backlinks might mean way more to google than my pr2 new site with the same number of backlinks
