Default Transfer Blog Without Losing SEO Value

One of my wordpress blogs broke and I want to fix it by uninstalling wordpress and starting from scratch. How can I uninstall and then reinstall wordpress without losing all the SEO value, URL's, posts, comments, and pages?

Please help this is my bread and butter site and I am fu**ed if I cannot get it back and running with the same content. I just need to clean the slate, uninstall wordpress and start from scratch on a new wordpress installation, but still use all my old posts, comments, etc. to retain my seo rankings

Uninstalling/reinstalling a working life blog... is never a wise idea.

Altogether, re-installing WP, usually doesn't solve anything: it's the ignorant people's advice when they have no clue what to do.

Now, that we have that stuff clarified: "broke" is not a technical term describing what happened. Can you be more specific?

As a general rule: don't assume that you know the solution for an issue and asking for the how-to. Somebody would tell you how to "erase" your blog and THEN will you be really f*cked up.

Describe the problem. Tell what you want as an end-goal (in this case: a working WP).

Experts will tell you what to do. Your plan described above is a sure recipe for disaster...

So, again: what happened to the blog? Be as specific as you can. Only facts.

Just a suggestion and you should wait for some responses before trying this, but I was able to restore a WP blog once by uploading an older version because the update was conflicting with some plugins. I uploaded everything but the config.php.

But then again it wasn't an important blog and I was holding my breath all the way. Re-uploading the files didn't effect the MYSQL database. But like I said wait for some responses before trying this.

I am using the Thesis 1.7 theme and last night I tried to add a few categories to the drop down menu. When I clicked the save button it told me that the themes files were outdated and needed to be updated so I clicked update. Once I did this nothing happened. When I returned to my blog it looked all screwed up. That was last night.

This morning I tried to fix some of the problems with the sidebar and changed the settings in Thesis from 3 to 2 sidebar. When I did theis it changed the color font of the text.

Here is a screen sht of what my site used to look like www.Bosmol.com

I called bluehost my hosting company and they changed the theme. When I try to log in to my admin page I get the following error:

W3 Total Cache Error: some files appear to be missing or out of place. Please re-install plugin or remove /home2/bosmolco/public_html/wp-content/advanced-cache.php.

I remove this file and deleted the W3C cache plug in and I get the following error:
W3 Total Cache Error: some files appear to be missing or out of place. Please re-install plugin or remove /home2/bosmolco/public_html/wp-content/db.php.

I remove this and get the following error:
W3 Total Cache Error: some files appear to be missing or out of place. Please re-install plugin or remove /home2/bosmolco/public_html/wp-content/object-cache.php.

I remove this and now am able to edit the website

Check my last post and I will not delete the wordpress installation. I appreciate your input and insight! All I want to do is have all my posts, comments, and pages up and running on a clean wordpress site. I do not care about thesis anymore.

Anyone have comments as to this method? I cannot run any risks to this blog.

I know, I see the text, but the formatting is off and the images look weird. I never changed the font colors

Disable all the plugins (if not accessible form admin panel - delete their folders via ftp; folders, not individual files!).

Switch back to the default 2010 or 2011 theme. Every content should be there.

Make a backup of the content - in other words a backup of the database: that's where all your content, like posts, Pages, comments, settings are stored.
If you have uploaded media (images, video etc.) - download the /uploads/ folder (should be under wp-content).

Then get a fresh copy of your theme, the latest of it.
Upload via FTP. Try to activate it. See if it works. If yes, see to get all the plugins updated. Then activate them one by one.

It should fix it.

Oh, and if you are FTP-ing anyway, make sure you have the latest WP.

Did I say BACK UP your database before even thinking to do anything?

I am trying to backup the files from tools-backup but I am not getting a file saved to my computer or emailed to me.

I am able to tools-export successfully, but I am not sure if this will save pending posts.

I am tempted to just go through each post and save it and then repost them using the same name, title, date, and URL. I would lose all the comments which would suck and this would be a major pain in the ass to do.

What can I do

What version of WordPress are you using? Is the Thesis 1.7 theme compatible with the WP version? This kind of issue should be escalated as a bug to the theme's developers. I'll have to repro the steps locally so I need the exact version of the apps your using. Have you tinkered with the template or css code in any way?

I think the only way to salvage SEO value would be doing a 301 redirect from your old broken blog to your new one. 301 redirects retain usually around 90% of their SEO value. You will definitely lose some value, but this is how I would go about it if this happened to me.
