We know that search engine rankings contribute to traffic, but is the reverse true - does traffic from sources other than search engines contribute to search engine rankings?

Only indirectly. If you get millions of hits your Alexa rank will be higher, which in turn will improve your PR but assuming your content is good, the PR is more to do with backlinks from authority sites, or sites in good neighbourhood. If you want content .. Spinblitz will create unlimited articles at a cost of $27 / month. ( they have a Free Trial ) and if you have Wordpress blogs there are automated posting functions. Check out > http://spinblitz.com By the way - Don't waste your $$$ on the wrong kind of backlinks - They won't work. Since the Google "Panda" update a lot has changed. Google has moved the playing field and simple text links are almost counter productive, Pyramid linkbuilding is no longer worth the effort but Contextual Links will get you an almost immediate SERPS improvement. Tens of thousands of both can be done in 24hrs using Scrapebox, and because of that Google is now giving simple text links less weight in SERPS. If you watch the latest video by Matt Cutts, Google's own guru, you will learn that contextual backlinks now have the most value. Contextual backlinks are links placed inside an article or blog post that are in the context of their surrounding text, so they look natural. For example an article on firefighting might have links to a firestation URL. These are quite time consuming to create and invariably need an image to get maximum Google juice. For anyone planning to create backlinks I recommend you to take 3 minutes to watch the Matt Cutts video on Auto SEO System™ Search Engine Optimization Software If you recognise the change he speaks about. then afterwards use their FREE software to create some contextual articles embedded with your own URL. |

This is rubbish, where did you hear this from? Alexa rank has nothing to do with PR rank and PR rank doesn't necessarily mean your rank better. Overall traffic won't affect your search engine ranking, but your bounce rate (time people stay on your site after clicking on it through Google) can affect rankings. Sam | |

Relevance, Backlinks, and site trust worthiness are all factors. How much traffic you receive is not. In terms of Adwords your clicks and bounce rate play a factor in how much you pay per each click and where they are displayed. But this has little to do with organic search results. |

Google uses traffic to guage things such as bounce rate. The time users spend on your website and how many pages they view before leaving. A low bounce rate tells Google that users enjoy your content, and thus gives Google more trust in your website. Other than that, no, traffic does not contribute to search engine rankings. |
