Does anyone have any evidence of social bookmarking directly improving their search engine position?

Social bookmarking is excellent for getting your content indexed quickly, after that it's best to move on to more powerful methods for improving SERPs such as high PR contextual links, article marketing links, blog commenting, forum posting etc..

I used to see an improvement in my specific title articles from social bookmarking, not any more. I link from Digg, Delicious, Google Buzz, and Linked In, just to get indexed.

It will help with indexing new content and provides a very,very small linking benefit.

I agree with 36burrows - You need to move on to more powerful link building like web 2.0 (blogs,squidoo,etc.) sites to get some juice flowing. Even article directories can be beneficial if linked correctly.

While most of the links are nofollow, I do think this can help to some degree.

I can't say that for websites, but when I bookmark my Squidoo lenses, they are soon higher in the SE.

I can't provide having evidence with search engine position but yeah what I found personally that visitors towards our website once increased after doing few social bookmarking. Bookmarking I found not much recommendable when it comes to increase keyword but no doubt it should also be performed. I always wonder if I could get or there is any application/website that could show each little improvement of ranking in search engines as that would help a lot in coming to the right method and process of SEO to be done for a website.

Instead of doing SEO with your home page url do it it with inner pages like do blog and forum posting, article and PR submissions with links to your site's inner page. This actually works!

if you want to see proof then submit your site to digg and other popular social bookmarking sites then you can see improvement in ranking of keywords
