I always think about it like this, Wordpress is more appropriate on professional purposes like establishing an authority site or blog. However, for personal use specially for newbies, Blogger would be much better due to its easy set up. |

I'd go with wordpress even if I was a newbie... What's the point of changing platforms half way through once you have familiarised yourself with one...

But the thing is, what if you are not familiar? what if you don't know a thing about SEO and blogging? wouldn't it be better to use something that is quite easy to set up, rather than something that is quite confusing for someone who is just a first timer? However, he didn't mention that he's already using neither wordpress nor blogger.

| I prefer Wordpress. Some of the features are pretty similar, but the ones that are different seem VERY different, so it may just be a matter of your preferences. Blogger has the ability to publish your blog to your own hosted website in a pretty automated fashion, if that's soemthing important to you. I thought that was kind of neat -- although most folks who have their own web hosting might not need the easy publishing features. I didn't, but tried it to test the two services a few months back. Wordpress had some pretty cool security features that I find useful for my needs. You could create user accounts unit to your blog and then restrict access to those individuals. At the time I set it up, you could have up to 35 users, and then may a real minimal charge to increase the number of users. The ability to selectively control in systematic fashion who could post and who had "read only" access was neat. Also the ability to group and associate messages to core topics (or users of the blog) was really nice. Otherwise, I think both systems are pretty similar. Blogger might be a tad more trendly looking depending on what theme you choose, but I was still more impressed with Wordpress. ! |

Why is Wordpress used by so many, and Blogger is talked by few? Because Google's ridiculous policies of course! You don't own anything that is on a Blogger account - Google does. So if a Google employee manually reviews your website and it breaks one of one million TOS rules, then your website is banned. Making a Wordpress blog gives you full control of your own website - and there is nothing Google can do about it. ++ You get Wordpress's plugins which are a must-have for any serious blogger. |

This thread is so friggin' funny. Blogger comes SEO'd right out of the box. You can easily do anything with it, add your own ads, javasripts, widgets, etc. Nothing is easier. It is SEO'd EXACTLY the way google wants it. Canonical urls, perfect robots.txt, etc. And wordpress? Just look at this forum. It should get money from wordpress because this is where people come to ask for help on how to do anything with wordpress, or find a plug in, or change this, or tweak that. No such nonsense is needed with blogspot. You want to ad adsense? Just point to where you want it. Voila! No sillines of looking for a CTR theme. Nobody uses blogspot? Man is that rich as well as just misinformed. Blogger is in the top 5 most visited sites in the world. (Giving google 3 out of the top 5). Sure. Nobody uses it. The whole thing is laughable. That's like saying to not use youtube because: Google owns it. They may take down your videos. Nobody uses it. It sucks for SEO. In fact, don't use youtube. Don't turn your videos over to google. You will get so much more juice by creating them and keeping them yourself. Does that make sense? of course not. Such nonsense. You can use your own domain with blogspot, make backups, and put your blog up elsewhere if google shuts you down. You should be making backups anyway for any site. But those people who are worried about google shutting them down, don't realize google can (and does) de-index sites, penalize sites, and your host can shut you down. So? What does that mean? To own your own server as well? Yeah, that'll show that big bad google! Paul |

Personally, I prefer Wordpress to Blogger because of ownership. If Blogger crashes, decides to randomly delete content for whatever reason... I have no recourse. Free is what you pay for = zero rights. Running Wordpress site on a paid webhost solution gives you so much more control over your website. Hope I helped, L |

But have you looked lately at Google's Blogger ToS lately? They can take down your site, remove content, or ban your Google account without reason - Wordpress cannot. If I may use a small blackhat trick that's currently working in the SEO world - the only thing Google can do is de-index or lower my rank, not completely ban my website. A small down-ranking as compared to a complete deletion is my preferred method at least, I don't know about yours. I'm sure you will argue "Well if you just stay whitehat then you have no problems" - hell, there are plenty of cases where Google terminates AdSense or bans Blogger blogs 'just because'. They give you a silly one sentence explanation that makes absolutely no sense and throws you out the door. Recently I had one of my niche sites that was hosted on Blogger, ranking #2 in Google for a decent term, disabled with AdSense because "There wasn't a proper structure to navigate within the site". Why should I give Google the power to determine what is a proper structure of my navigation bar and what isn't? Of course it's only my opinion, you can argue otherwise. I know my SEO, so making a Wordpress blog turns out just the same as a Blogger on-page. It's just not worth dealing with Google's strictness and risking my income for that fact.

If you are talking about Blogging Platform then Wordpress is much better than Blogger. If you want to earn money from sites then try investing in site and first step is to purchase your own domain and hosting. Thanks |

Different opinions from different point of views of different people. What's the bottom point of this? Well, using blogger or wordpress or whatever blogging platforms is not really a big issue. Why would people refer to blogspot because it's owned by Google? I am sure that Google will not give you special treatments because you're using blogspot. If you have done crappy things on your blog, Google will surely penalize you even if you are using blogspot. Or why would you use wordpress because there are many people who are using it? Every platforms have their own advantages over the other. Though it's not bad for us to know everyone's experiences and opinions about that matter. What important is, how you work out for your blog. SEO is a world of trial and error, try wordpress if you want, do your best, and if you don't want the results, then you may try blogger or whatever you want. |

As someone who uses both WordPress and Blogger on a regular basis, I prefer WordPress and am gradually moving away from Blogger. I do not recommend WordPress.com because they will remove business type blogs with no warning, so I now have blogs on my own domains and sub-domains, using Fantastico on my Cpanel to quickly install them. I have over 100 Blogger blogs and have lost 5 because I infringed some rules or another, but I have known people who have lost their whole account, every so often Google has a purge, so I am replacing them with WordPress blogs I tend to keep my blogs simple and straight forward providing information relating to what I promote. On WordPress are a mass of plugs to help with SEO, remote posting etc so I thing the SEO results will be similar to Blogger. I do however like to have as much control as possible over my own destiny so do not recommend a free service offered by a third party who might freeze or remove my hard earned work. |

You can go with Blogger and build up a big site that can make lots of revenue for you, and you can also do the same with WordPress. The only problem with both of them is they can delete your blog whenever they feel it's inappropriate. Go with what @InTheMaking says, get your own domain, use WordPress and build up your website (asset) there. Best of luck. |

Google still wants to see quality content, because content is king. Basically, on free blog hosting services, you have little control however. I always recommend using Wordpress on their own cpanel accounts for all of my clients. In fact I endorse someone who runs his own affiliate program that is solely focused on getting a blog set up and traffic driven to it and results from it. Having a blog on a hosting account of your very own means that nobody is in control of it but you. In fact, having that level of control means that you will put in more sweat equity into a blog that you pay to have hosted somewhere and you will treat it accordingly. A lot of CPA marketers are using Wordpress on my own server within their own cpanel accounts, because of that very reason. They have free reign and it is not as difficult to gain a ranking as one may think. Consider that option. You may find that it is a good thing for you. Good luck.

Wordpress and Blogger are both have their own importance. Wordpress is known for its unbeatable plugins and SEO friendly features. Blogger gives you freedom to create paged as you like. You can even edit the html coding of blogger's blog and can make it customized so, both are good. It's upto you what you choose... SEO Dublin |

| THE PROS OF USING BLOGGER 1. It's free 2. It's easy to use. The dashboard is easily navigated. 3. Free domain name hosting. 4. 1G of free photo space through Picasa. THE CONS OF USING BLOGGER: 1. There are not as many options for customizing your blog. 2. Some people look down on Blogger blogs. 3. Unless you purchase your own domain name and point it to your Blogger blog your stuck with a xxx.blogspot.com domain name. THE PROS OF USING WORDPRESS: 1. The ability to customize your blog theme. 2. Wordpress is free, you only have hosting costs. 3. Most hosts offer one click installation through Fantastico or Simple Scripts. 4. The Wordpress community has developed hundreds of plugins to help improve the Wordpress functionality. 5. You can choose from hundreds of free themes if you don't want to invest in a custom theme for your blog. THE CONS OF USING WORDPRESS 1. You have to pay to have your Wordpress blog hosted. 2. Frequent releases of new versions. 3. Plugins are created, and maintained by 3rd parties, and are not supported by Wordpress itself if you encounter a problem. |

Perhaps the easiest thing to see in terms of differences is that it is easier to get a nice looking, well designed blog with Wordpress (Wordpress.com). This is mainly because in Wordpress you have more themes to choose from and they are generally better designed than the Blogger ones.

I think that it boils down to the fact that Blogger or WordPress are platforms. There are several good content management platforms for blogs or websites. Pick one that you are comfortable with. Content is what matters. If you plan to use Google Adsense or Adwords read every word of thier TOS and follow it to the letter. You may still get penalized by Google but if you follow the TOS religiously you MAY succeed in appealing if they decide to ban you. If you do buy a domain name and point it to your Blogger blog be careful about that because Google gets hincky about domain forwarding. read thier TOS carefully and check out the Adsense Help Forum before you start domain forwarding. They don't ban it completely but be sure you follow thier guidelines if you do it. |
