Default url in serps changed with higher rank?

I have gotten my self really confused here.

My one and only site which im using to test to see if can rank it on page one before i commit to more sites is acting extremely strange.

I built the site a couple of months back and managed to get it to page 2/no15 in local search and 38 in global search.

Last week i starting a new campaign to build some links not too many though.

Some time ago i set my preferred url as www in google webmasters.

This morning my site started dancing about and settled on page 2 no 11 in the serps and page 2/no15 globally.

The problem is that before today the site was always showing in the serps as www mysite com but now its showing without the www

Im wondering what the cause is?

The www seems to have been deindexed using the site operator

Does anyone with experience have any idea as to what has happened.
