Default Punished by Google?

Hey everyone.
I had quite over 248 pages indexed by Google. 2 of those pages were ranking almost on the 3rd spot. I noticed that a few days ago my number of indexed pages dropped by 14. Today almost 20. Any ideas why this is happening and why these pages which ranked so high and well are no longer on Google index?
Could this be because I commented on blogs and linked back to my site? Isn't that what Link building is all about?

Thanks for your helpful answers.

yes blog commenting is linkbuilding, but there is something called quality and quantity. I dont think that you are punished by google as its a huge term itself rather i would consider it to be a google dance as its a normal thing when you build backlinks, so dont worry and keep building quality backlinks for your site and it will be back in SERP.

Might be because of "google dance". Normally this will happen when google changes their algorithm. I think you will be back to your previous position in 6-7 days. I had the same problem.. I was at 10 and thrown back to 23rd and I was workig..working..working.. it was not movng..then after 6-7 days it moved back to 10th position.

Thank you guys for all your comments..
No I never use any type of automated back link building software other than just me adding RELATIVE comments.
But I did a search on top ten celebrity camel toes which was one of my most visited pages and it is not indexed in Google no more.. Don't know why this is so.. I just hope you guys are all correct.. And many thanks again.. Love this forum for the help you get.

Yes it should be Google Panda crawled your site. May be it disliked you content or the backlinks

I did a search for "top ten celebrity camel toes" and you have 3 entries on second page, try to push those.

This happens and you may want to make sure you are not building backlinks too quickly. Other than that continue putting up content with good SEO and you should gain your ranking back over time.

Guys thank you all for your Tips, advice and comments. I only do about 5 links a week or so not too many. My site is only 4 months old and I already have about 1500 daily visitors and a 134,989 on Quantcast. I take great pride in my writing so I know it is not because of content that it was removed.
I did read that on the Panda update Google was dropping newer sites from top ranking pages. That sux.. If my SEO Skills are better than an older site than I should rank higher based on QUALITY... NOT seniority.
Thanks again to all.

I meet the same problem with u.I think may people experienced this before. we all know google always change their algorithm for better service and ranking.as long as you don't use the black hat seo and do spamming comments on other sites,I think your pages will be indexed soon.

If you link velocity went down or you stopped building links that could drop your site that fast. Just keep building good quality links and your pages should go back up.

Check google webmaster tools and make sure you didn't inadvertently do something to your site. Do some research in google analytics. Then finally make sure your content isn't duplicate content.

Now a days many people are being punished by Google panda update because they are making big mistakes. And Google is becoming more clever. It's very easy for Google to catch you when you try to dodge them. Anyway! just post quality contents on your site, build back-links slowly, mix them up mean have high quality one way authority links, have do-follow and no-follow links pointing backs to your site and you will climb back. Hope you will find them useful.

I think this is Google dance and your ranking will be stable after a few days. just keep building backlinks but from your niche.

That might could be Google Dance if your domain is newly registered. If not then Penguin might would have considered your website suspicious. Go to webmaster tools and get the backlinks that you think looks spammy or poor in content/designing. You will get your rankings asap!

Sound like the google dance, it happens even to older established sites. Just build backlinks slowly, but DON'T stop building backlinks as this will only show google that your backllinks are not fluent, and consistent.

After a while your rankings will be more stable, and usually alot higher in the serps.
