You betcha! Even "nofollow" blogs are are useful because those mixed with dofollows help make your backlinks look more natural. Not to mention if the blogs popular regardless you could get traffic direct through it to yours. I'm a newb though, you may want to hear a seasoned vet's advice.

I hear posting in the proper section and using the search feature is effective too. Might just be a rumor though. Garrie |

Blog commenting can be effective if your comments provide value (so they don't get deleted) to the post and you are able to link back to your own site. Seriously, I can speak to this from personal experience because too many times I have had to delete worthless blog comments that are created with broken English and make no sense whatsoever. |

Relevant blogs are great for backlinks as well as direct traffic and exposure to a new crowd, just like posting on forums. I usually allow relevant comments on my blogs but detest the continual spam that is sent my way. DTaylor |

You have to choose blogs that haven't been spammed to death. Otherwise, it is practically worthless.

You have to choose only those blogs which are not spammed to death as said by the member above and try to choose only those which are related to your keyword..Because those are more effective..!!

Blog commenting is still effective in 2011 SEO provided it is done properly. It has to be targetted and deliver value to the blog readers.

Blog commenting on relevant blogs in your niche is very effective for direct traffic... and making relationships with the blog owner Also, the more you provide quality comments, the better chance you have to get accepted to write a guest blog post for them and get a valuable backlink to your site... |

As above, most of your blog commenting efforts will be a waste of time if it is clear that you are just spamming. Think about what comments you would approve on your own blog, surely not those saying that you are great and oh by the way here is a site about penis enlargement. On the same note, what systems (if any) you you guys use to measure the effectiveness of your blog commenting activities ? |

And if you are going the route of "mass spam" and hitting every blog in site, make these links point to a buffer site and not your money site.

Back links from high PR relevant blogs not only help in increasing your domain PR but also get relevant traffic to your site. Comments with back links on moderated blogs are worth than those on auto approved blogs even if they have high PR because they are often populated by spammers. |

Few weeks ago I decided to make a little test. I took one of my websites that had been sitting at google rankings position 15. for a long time. I posted 20 comments to non-spammy do follow blogs (with my targeted keywords as my name and of course my website adress in the URL box) and now that website has been sitting at first page of google results since that.. so I suppose blog commenting still gets some credit to your website. Just do not use those 'dead' spammy blogs, they will probably get you nowhere..

I let some comments through if they make sense but some don't and I don't think anyone else would understand them either. Always wondered how much help comments were, even though I did them. Thanks for the understanding.

Blog commenting is absolutely effective in 2011 - to say otherwise reveals a complete and utter disassociation with current SEO practices.

Hey, Blog Commenting can be very GOOD - but if done properly can be very time consuming. ...and, when I say properly I mean 'not spamming'. Not always worth the investment of your time, but the backlinks can be invaluable when they do stick. Definitely not DEAD! Hope this helps, Colin |

As a blog owner, I can tell you that using a keyword as your name is a quick ticket to deletesville without even reading the comment itself. If you're going to look like a canned pork product, be prepared to be treated like one...

Sure, it's still very effective. Just not in the way that it used to be. Spamming the crap out of a few thousand low quality blogs won't get it done anymore. But if you actually provide quality comments on higher quality blogs you'll still see great results. It's a little bit harder and definitely more time consuming. But I'd rather get a handful of high PR backlinks, as opposed to a few hundred junk links from spammed-to-death blogs. Just leave quality comments and you'll be fine. Not all of them will be approved though. So don't be surprised if only 25-50% of your comments are actually approved. Even if they're well thought out. |

Personally, I've found it to be a lot more helpful when I am commenting on a blog that is actually in my niche. I don't know how much "link juice" or whatever it actually gives you, but I've had increased traffic.

I agree, blog commenting still works. You just need to provide value and read the post you are going to comment on.I get a lot of these "nice post" comments on my blog which gets deleted instantly. If you can provide value in your comments, you will both get a link back to your site and traffic too, people will want to learn more about you and see what you have to offer.

I am still finding that careful, thought-out comments on high-PR pages (with a backlink of course!) DO get results - it's a real grind, but I always see boosts in rankings. But if I can't add value to a blog with my comment, I will skip it - I don't care if it's PR10. As for spamming with Scrapebox - does ANYONE still do that?! Oh, yeah, they do, judging by the amount of spam on my blogs...

Blog commenting is very much effective in 2011 but if done properly. commenting on spam blogs is not worth but posting on high pr relevant blogs having less comments (8-12) will be very much useful and effective. they are very high weighted. |

It depends on how you placed your comment, if it is relevant to the blog post then it may be useful otherwise it could just be deleted by the blog owner.

I've been getting good results with blog commenting, but only when I actually seek out high quality blogs and contribute a valuable comment. I find that one or two of those works better than a bunch of auto-generated scraped comments on junk blogs. I'll also add that I think the "nofollow" concern is becoming less important as Google really starts to look at what a community talks about. If Google wants to rank what's truly relevant to people it has to look at where conversations are taking place...blog commenting, forums, social networks...and give value to those links whether they are "nofollow" or not. |

I have two new sites that I had no backlinks. Once their rankings settled a bit, I began building some backlinks from blogs from relevant blogs with authority. With no other backlinks other than blog commenting, both sites experienced significant jumps. So, yes, I would say blog commenting still carries weight. Take the time to do it right though.

Effective but much less. Concentrate on getting links from actual blog posts (guest-blogging, paying for a link, etc) |

Yeah, blog commenting is a complete waste of time in the sense that mostly our comments are getting disapproved. It's sad to say that there are only less than 10% chance for your comments to get approved. But there have been no recent updates about the full weight value of blog commenting this year. So I think there's still a lot to gain from this kind of activity though in one condition: if your comment gets approved. | |

Blog commenting can be effective if your comments provide value so they don't get deleted to the post and you are able to link back to your own site.

If you see a bunch if spammy comments with links that are completely unrelated to the blog topic then just skip that page and find one with relevant quality content. I post comments on many blogs that moderate and if its a good comment it will be let it more times than not even if it has a backlink. The key is to find a site related to your keywords but that doesn't compete. Like if your site is about dog catching you don't want to try to comment on other dog catching sites. You want to find sites that are about funny pet videos or pet stories, or dog training...well not the best example but hope you get my point

Most of the people see blog commenting as an opportunity for links only if that is the case then it doesn't has much value now because most of the blogs these days use nofollow and those who don't have so many comments that the link value gets decreased. So when you comment on blogs make sure that you stay on topic add something useful to the post if you do this you can build a good relationship with the blog owner and also the visitors which in return can return you a link if they find your site useful enough. |

I think blog commenting is still useful, but ofcourse you just have to ensure that you are adding useful content, or else the admin may simply refuse to allow to allow your link
