Default Making sense of geo-targeted keyword research

Hey all,

I need some help understanding how to properly conduct Geo-targeted keyword research. Here's the situation:

I'm dong some keyword research for a a counselor in Sarasota, FL. I've already done the comp. research and some delving into their "secrets" using SpyGlass, source code, and my own brain. From that, I've gathered about a 62 term keyword list that all contain the word "sarasota" within the term.

However, when I run those keywords through the GAWKT or through Rank Tracker to measure the KEI and number of searches via EXACT match, I get very little to no data coming back for results.

I know there's people searching for counseling in Sarasota, so I'm having a hard time understanding how the keywords can bring back no data.

Is there a solid method to doing geo-targeted keyword research or what ? This is beginning to make absolutely no sense to me. It's happened with other industries as well. Try searching for an exact match of "swimming pool builders sarasota" and you'll see it brings back ZERO data. Ummmm....what ? Sarasota is a swimming pool heaven with 75 pool companies doing damn good business. And you're telling me that nobody is searching for it? I just don't get it.

Can anybody offer up some advice on how to go about Geo-targeted KW research ?

Hey Webladder,

There's a free Keyword research tool called Keyword Optimizer Pro. Google it. It's essentially a Google Suggest scraper and will spit out a huge number of phrases quickly.

Next, use the Google Traffic Estimator within the Adwords Keyword Tool. Hopefully you can uncover some traffic numbers that way. I don't even use the Adwords Tool anymore except for the Traffic Estimator!

Good luck,
Jared

Thanks I'll give that tool a try. But my problem isn't necessarily the software, but rather the system of doing geo-targeted keyword research. I'll give it a shot though.
