What's your strategy for backlinking?

I have an EMD on page three of Google with only onpage SEO optimization. It's about a week old.

Time to backlink...

On a scale of 1 to 5 what would you rank these techniques

forum posts
blog comments with dofollow
article marketing
any others???

also, do you try to generate 50 backlinks then wait for results, then get another 50 and wait... or do you just try to get as many as possible right away?

This is probably one of the most common questions in the forum(im not saying YOU should not have asked it-still a great question). Heck I do a lot of backlinking and am still wondering the same thing.lol.
Personally I find that it is not about quantity, more about quality and type of backlink. I am not big on profile links, anyone can use software and shoot out hundreds of these links, and it will not move you up in the rankings. However, write a couple of ezine articles with your main keyword anchortexted in the bio and you will see better results.
The yahoo site explorer backlink report does not lie. Your articles and forum posts will always show up as backlinks, and they are strong backlinks. These are the 2 backlinks that I focus on the most. hope this helps you. good luck!

Those are all junk links except for the blog comments, just keep the blog comments looking real (read the page).

Don't worry about how many or when to post backlinks, If the page on your site is live, start backlinking.

blogs with nofollow are still good, they make your site links more legit(as they even it out) and they can still pull in users who read the blog you comment on. Most the top blogs are nofollow.

In my experience profile links are useless. Actually any kind of link building becomes effective only if that link gets indexed. If your backlink does not get indexed then it's a waste of your time, effort and money.

I highly recommend to just do backlinking manually.
I write an article and every day (over a week or so) I visit my favorite blogs, read their articles and comment - quality comments, not just plain "thank you" comments.
Recently I found a website which listed do follow and no follow sites for social media -
if you like to read about it, go to my blog (sorry for self-promotion), i just thought you like to know the do follow sites :-)

- Participating in niche related communities
- Link baiting
- Directory submission
- Social bookmarking submission
- RSS feed submission
- Video marketing
All these techniques demand a lot of efforts... ‘Keyword Country’ is the tool which I have been using as an aid in my link building campaign.

Blast 'em all! Google will not crawl them all simultaneously. So don't worry about it, just keep it consistent and keep away from crappy sites 'cause it will eventually hurt your site.

Good question. The truth is no one knows for sure. But your best bet would be to target blogs or web pages with higher PR and a lower number of outbound links. Since high PR pages with low outbound links can often be hard to find or very expensive to rent, the next best option is to build lots of backlinks to your backlinks. Start with a set of high quality tier 1 links. Then build even more links to those tier 1 links (tier 2). Then you can build even more links to those tier 2 links (tier 3). The quality of the links can degrade the further you get from your money site. But this is definitely one of my most powerful strategies.

Blog commenting and forum posting looks promising, especially when combined with on-topic contribution. Any tools to automate the creation of a profile, search for do-follow and good PRs? I'd like to do it right, but cut out all the hassle of manual processes.
