Default Does the ip matter?

I made some websites and they have a bad reputation in Google because of their spammy links (thousands of profile links, etc). Now I'm thinking of making a new website which will be more serious but is it ok to make it on the same host?
The website will have the same ip as the spammy ones and I'm afraid Google might penalize it although it's not the same domain name!

I would be very hesitant to build any sites on an ip which has previous sent the wrong signals to Google in the past. It's very inexpensive to get a dedicated ip or to even choose a new web host. I would go for the latter if I were in your position.

What will the Google do with other domains already having good repute and page ranks, hosted on that host? Will the all other domains be also penalized by Google? I think its not so as you are thinking. If you register a new domain on the same host, It will have its own repute and identity with Google.
Hope you got my point.

Here's an interesting article which might be worth reading:
Google Says They Reserve Right To Ban All Sites On Hosting Company

with particular reference to this quote:
Quote:
Kaspar Szymanski, a Search Quality Strategist at Google, tweeted yesterday that Google reserves the right to take action on all the sites on a server or at a hosting company if they feel the host is massively spammy.

I recommend you to change the host or ask the hosting service to provide you a different IP for your new website. This issue might be complicated but for the sake of precaution I recommend not to host your new site on the same ip.

Although the article in question does briefly mention the co.cc domain extension the relevancy of it has little to do with domains (or extensions) in general. Rather it is a indication that Google can choose to penalise sites which reside on ip blocks which it deems to be spammy.

I would like to recommend that you should go for dedicated ip not for shared ip...as Google like static and dedicated ip.
