Different answers for everyone i'm afraid..

You can make a LOT

Small amounts of traffic will still make a lot of adsense revenue (depending on the niche..think "medical" as a high paying one)

And yes, depending on your area of the world, you can absolutely live off adsense income, but god forbid they ban your adsense account for an infraction..game over..now how are you going to provide for yourself or for your family? Always better to diversify your income paths.

adsense still make me good money, but it's not as good as it was before the economic crisis, i was getting really huge adsense checks and i still do get good money to bank. you will only need to work hard and to have as much as possible of sites

Generally I get between 1-2% CTR on my sites and you get like 60%? of the CPC per click so you should work out what you want to make then do some math and figure out how much traffic you need to generate for each keyword to make your target money.
