Google +1 Coming to Adsense. What you think?

Just for sharing. Not sure if anyone has shared this news (not as I searched). Received an email from Adsense today and the email goes like this...

Hello,

In the next month, we'll introduce the +1 button and personal recommendations to display ads. The +1 button will begin to appear on AdSense for Content and AdSense for Mobile Content display ad formats -- image, animated gif, and Flash. +1s will be one additional signal to help determine an ad's relevance and we'll continue to show the ads that will generate the most revenue for you.

We previously launched the +1 button on Google search and for publisher sites to make it easier for people to share and discover content across the web. Soon, your users will be able to endorse specific ads and make the ads more likely to appear to their social connections. We believe that these recommendations could help your readers notice ads on your site more, leading to higher returns for you over time.

I like it actually because I think it will help to display the most relevant ads to each user.

Everything is becoming more user oriented with Google, even their search.

I think it goes both ways, some people will find it useful (people who use google+) and others will probably find it annoying/useless (people who dont use google+).

I think there needs to be some split testing done. It's easy to disable it, so it isnt a huge deal.

It will be interesting to see some long term findings on whether it impacts users clicking on ads.

I think that Google +1 will not last much longer. Maybe even as soon as the end of the year. Another one of their failures.

My viewpoint is that this can be a distracting thing on sites and I hope that it does not draw too much attention from visitors clicking ads.

I see the potential for this to help them figure our what ads are the best on various websites.

I also think that this step will help them close the gap with facebook and it will definitely increase the exposure of Google plus around the world.

Smart move on their part, but I wonder if it is too much. I think they are taking more real estate on their ads that are posted on peoples websites via adsense than they should. It is bad enough that they have the Ads by Google

Just my opinion though.

oh wow, I should have read the email completely. I just got the gist of it and closed it up.

Now I have to debate / test / research if it will actually benefit my sites.

I will probably leave it active for a while and see how it goes.'

I think it's pure crap and they shouldn't be placing it on ads as it will lead to bogus ad clicks...another stupid move by google...opting out as usual

Seems rather pointless to me. It's difficult enough as it is to get people to click on ads, without another distraction and something which highlights an advert. Do they really expect people to recommend adverts? Think I might opt out.

Google is really improving their engines like crazy this new feature looks good to me.

Whether you like it or not there are compelling reasons for implementing this and they all have to do with conversions. Google is working under three fronts in search right now: personalisation, localisation and socialisation.

Put simply, it really wants to customise search results and adverts to each user. It's +1 Button is part of this process as it uses people power to curate the web. Basically, an advert recommended by a friend is more likely to be clicked on by you.

Seeing adverts which have not been recommended, with time, will become a thing of the past. In theory this should be good fo advertisers as they will get more clicks and for publishers using AdSense as they will get more revenue.

I find that the +1 feature will greatly influence clicks especially for visitors who dislike ads. They may use the +1 as an indication of an advertisement and just ignore it, even worse ignoring the +1 button for the web-page altogether.

Even if the visitor click on +1 for a certain ad but may not be interested to such an ad after a month. So doesn't it beats the purpose?

But if it really works, it will definitely benefit everyone.

From what I read in the email and in the FAQ it is just for flash, image, and animated gif ads. Most of my niches don't use image, flash, or animated gif ads, so it won't really affect me all that much.

Check your niches and see how often a relevant image/flash/gif ad actually appears. Then you will see how relevant it is to your niche.

Do you use +1 in the States? I know nooone using it in Europe.. It will be a fail in EU like Google Buzz..

It will wholly depend on the visitors. If they have no clue what it does, or if they get suspicious about the participation, it may not be very useful.

Another stupid idea from Google…How can a company that got search engine mechanics and marketing right fail so miserably at everything else it comes up with.

I doubt very seriously readers will +1 an ad but I can see that if they do there will be a bunch of bogus clicks …and if I were an advertiser I would be pissed off that google is is basically advertising their crap +1 button on my add as I know it would not give me any releative advertising information.

Right now I have the Google +1 on a few of my sites but very soon I will be removing it on all of them as it’s a completely useless metric that does nothing.

Apart from my ads being obvious to my readers, I don't see any advantage to it yet. Probably it might increase the CTR, but let's keep our finger cross and see.

+1 button just a quicker way.

Google is having record profits. If they have failures, only
we should have failures like that...

Some people just make silly comments that make no sense.

Google needs to put -1 button as well, so people can really vote.
