Default Domain change and site is gone!

Well I had a website ranking very well at top 5 spots on Google.

I went through a domain name change because I believed that could do better for the rankings as I didn't like the dash domain names. So I bought the new domain and properly moved my old site to it with proper redirection as Google recommended. In 2 days, I was ranking at the same spots my old site was.

But the 5th day, my website has gone totally away from rankings. The pages are still indexed but I can't see any result even upto the 10th page. I don't really know what happened so please help.

Give it some time. Let google crawl the redirects a few times and in a couple of weeks it should resolve itself.

This happened to one of my sites. I bought a better domain and 301 redirected to the new domain and it took about 3 weeks for my position to be regained. On some pages my ranking improved a little due to a more keyword rich domain name.

According to my experience you should also submit your site maps once again should review your redirect once again is it via proper channel or not.

Well, whenever you make some changes on your website, your rankings may fall down, especially if its redirection.

Don't worry your rankings will bounce back to normal.

Yeah its 301 redirection and its been 2 weeks I'm waiting.

All sitemaps and feeds have been submitted, now waiting for Google to hop back on it. I hope it comes back to its place.

I have worked with a few 301 redirect sites, and they took at least two months to get back to where the original site was. I kept building links the whole time.

I just want to be yet another to say this, so that you know it's probably the case.

You are dealing with the "Google Dance".

Learn more about it:

"In search engine optimization (SEO), Google Dance is an out-dated slang term used to describe the period of time in which Google used to rebuild its rankings, and as a result of this rebuilding, rankings of Web sites on Google's SERP may fluctuate in order during a several day period. The "Google Dance" would happen anywhere up to 36 times per year, however in 2003 Google begun updating its index on a weekly basis, which all but eliminated the Google Dance."
