Hi Guys, This is my first post so hello to all ![]() I'm wondering about domain strategies. I should note that this isn't for a brand, I have my brand domain sorted. I'm interested in registering "support" sites which target individual products. Obviously I know the domain name isn't a main SEO win but having an exact match does seem to be a big benefit. Something else that's obvious - it's very rare to find an exact match available on a .com / .net / .org domain. I'm sure there's plenty of other peeps who have had the same experience and I'm curious what strategies are recommended. Single word domains:
Thanks, Mike |

Add a stop word or minor word to the end of your keywords. Your exact keywords should be first. (i.e. keywordnow.com). Avoid hyphens. Avoid "i" or "e" prefixes unless it makes perfect sense to your keyword.

I beg to differ. Everything else being equal (seo, backlinks, etc.), the domain name and the order of the keywords makes a difference. It's only one aspect of the overall strategy, but it counts.

I'd say KEYWORDreview or KEYWORD-guide as I think it's definitely better to go for keyword at the beginning if possible. I'm trying to make this decision at the moment, the domain I really like is kingdomofKEYWORD but I feel I really should be going with something like KEYWORDpro or KEYWORDhangout etc.

I would first go for keywordguide.com / keywordreview.com type domain names. I would also consider exact matching long tail .net and possibly .org domains depending on your niche and ultimate goals. WHAT I DO NOT LIKE::: I would avoid .co / .info and other extensions. I personally do not care for hyphen domains, but in certain competitive niches this might be an viable option to consider, just not for me. i or e domains could work if you would like to brand a site in that direction and it makes sense. I think i and e domains are better when they are nice and short. These are not my style though.

I see several sites that just look out of place on the first page compared to the others (little or no age, little or no backlinks), and 9 out of 10 times it is a keyword domain, well optimized, with a ton of content on the page. I may be completely wrong, it's just what i have noticed lately. Jon

One of the theories I have read and put some stock in is something like: keywordx.com The closer you can get to the keyword the better. Adding more characters to the domain diminishes its "seo value". Try and get an exact match domain (emd) or as close as you can get to it. Hope this helps. |
