Linkbuilding for Google Places Listing

Say I have a Google Places listing and I want to rank it on the top of Google. I understand that I do need to build backlinks. But should I build backlinks to the Google listing itself or should I build backlinks to the citation sites?

I'd say both, backlinks to the listing wouldn't hurt, but from what I understand the 'citations' are the main thing you want to have to boost the rank of the Places listing.

Citations are more important then getting crappy backlinks when it comes to GP.

Citations, Images, reviews and videos should really help you out

1 - "Google loves video". Basically, the more content you can include, the more complete your listing, the more comfortable Google is displaying it to a visitor...that's the idea anyway

2 - You can geo-tag videos in Youtube. Use Youtube for a geotagged video + a full citation (name, address, phone) in the video description. Improve the keyword relevance of your listing by including kws in the video tags, title, and description. Anywhere you can legitimately stuff keywords, gain a citation, and a geo-tag to the business is a plus.

Do the same thing with Panoramio photos.
