How important is Domain Age to SEO?

I had a domain name 9 year old and worth nothing.

Honestly I couldn't tell you as I have ranked new sites pretty easy at a local level so I'd imagine that an aged domain could get a little better traction if its got some content on it.

With aged domain, it is easy to do off-page SEO..

For sure it helps as long as the new site you build on it is 100% unique content. You will still keep any links coming that domain and they may turn into new customers/subscribers etc.

In my opinion domain age factors are very little however they do add to the overall authority to a site, so it does have some impact.

I can't speak from experience (I've had no problem ranking with brand new domains), only from what I've read and studied over several months.

Assuming it's this old and has been indexed for that long, you can get away with more aggressive backlinking campaigns. Like what internetcrusaders said. Anything older than 6 months and you should be good to go.

What do you mean by "9 year old and worth nothing"? If you could elaborate that would be great. Domain age can help, but it's only one small factor in the SEO equation.

Domain age is important as long as over the period of time it had some kind of content. If you had a domain but didn't have any website there, age will not make much difference. However if for example over the period of several years you had domain with some kind of content, the age will indicate that your site is reliable and it should help you score higher in SERPs. On the other hand, if you decide to change the topic of the site (change the keywords which were present for the past years), you will most likely lose all the benefit of domain's age.

Hi,

Domain age really does matter for seo if your domain is old than Google takes this as a trust able domain so it gives more importance than new domain!

Domain age is important only if they have been there for quite some time and has got good quality IBLs. Otherwise it's not that useful compared to a fairly new domain. The market I was fighting had a site #1 which is 7 years old and I am #2 after their domain and my domain is what 11 months old!
