Any difference for US search rankings between a company in the US, hosting in the US, with a .com, and a company in Japan, with the same hosting in the US and the same .com? I've seen discussion about whether Google can see a private domain registration, but my question is whether the country of the domain owner matters? Would a company in Japan targeting the US market be better off for SEO by creating a US subsidiary? . |

Yes, location of hosting does matter in rankings. If your website is hosted in U.S., Google will consider it beneficial for the U.S. audience and assign a comparative high rankings in U.S. |

Yes location matters - location of the company, the server and the searcher.

I've seen absolutely no evidence for this. Nada. Yes where you host and where those who link to you host is a consideration but Google going into registration to determine where the registrar lives? I'd like to see that evidence.

These claims are all nonsense unless you can show me PROOF that a UK-hosted site will rank more readily in the UK than in the US (no, "I read it on a forum" does not count!). I have at least one mini-niche site ranking well in Google.co.uk for a bunch of terms, yet it is a .net and hosted in the US (and I live a very long way from both UK and US ).The MAIN factor is the geographic target you set in Webmaster tools. Even if the other factors had any weight this would far outweigh them all. |
