The most effective tools I have used thus far are:

Article Marketing Robot: Excellent for building quantity but unfortunately most articles do not get indexed and I have experienced a low success rate but the tool is still effective.

ScrapeBox: Still trying to figure out how best to use this one but it has helped with harvesting high PR links and checking indexing of links.

SEO QUAKE Pluging for FF: free and amazingly helpful

SEO Link Robot PRO: Does the same as SenukeX for a fraction of the price. I have experienced 75-80% success rates but I am selling my lifetime access due to financial difficulties.

FOR SALE: My Lifetime Access Key To SEO LINK ROBOT PRO (SAVE $147) PM me for details
(developer has given me permission to resell)

I'm a HUGE fan of Rank tracker by SEO Power Suite and SEO Spy Glass. Love OnlyWire for Social Media distribution, Google keyword tool - keywordspy dot com... and I love to study my stats and find new ways too potentially increase my conversion rates with copy / video / audio etc..

There's a variety of SEO tools, both free and paid, that speed and smarten up webmasters' work.

To begin with, there are Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Tools - invaluable instruments for getting an in-depth picture of your traffic, link count and even getting insightful ideas for the keywords you should target.

Btw, Google has a number of great free keyword research tools:
- Google AdWords Keyword Tool
- Google Suggest
- Related Searches
- Google Sets
- Google Trends to name a few.

Advanced SEOs also use rank checkers, backlink checkers and on page optimization tools.

How is saying that you are manually doing your SEO answering the question? That's not what the TC asked.

Anyway, to answer the question...

Free tools:
1. Google Keyword Adwords Tool (absolutely necessary)
2. Link-assistant (check your ranking, backlinks, etc.)

Paid tools:
1. Article Marketing Robot
2. Scrapebox
3. Market Samurai

Paid services (assuming you are looking into these also):
I haven't tried many, but BuildMyRank has been doing fairly well.

SeNuke X is not worth the money imo.

I refer to both SEO Powersuite and Google Webmasters Tool.

SEO Powersuite does not show my Google backlink, I wondered why, so I check my Google backlink from Google Webmasters Tool.

Hi Pinky Painter,

thank you for using SEO PowerSuite.

If we speak about your own websites, Google Webmaster Tools will probably report on more backlinks. They'll give you an accurate link count and list most of them - though it depends on the number of your backlinks.

SEO SpyGlass, SEO PowerSuite's backlink checker, is perfect for competition research, i.e. analyzing backlinks of your competitors. You get not just backlinks listed, but also a variety of important data, which lets you point out the most valuable links.

Def like they layout and the way it updates the best out of all the keyword tracking tools. SEO Software | Search Engine Ranking | Advanced Web Ranking

id compare it to SEOMOZ offline in alot o aspects of tracking. but a hell of alot cheaper.. its only like $99 per year and they update the software often from what ive seen so far which is VERY important in my book.
ive tried Rank Checker
And this blows it away..

I use, beside of google webmaster and analytic, Serp & SEO Monitor for the SEO controlling. It checks automatically my keyword rankings, check my backlinks (not that some webmaster removed my backlink ) and is also analysing some other stats (backlink count, indexed pages, pagerank, etc).

No other tools. The rest is made manually or outsourced.
Ah ok, not to forget Google Keyword Tool of course

Automate your SEO controlling and save a lot of time with Serp & SEO Monitor. Just a few features of that great SEO Software are automated keyword ranking check, automated backlink check (if your backlink still exists on the page of your link swap partner), personalized reports, long-term analysing with graphs and many more.
