Personally I do both of them but when it comes to time management, I personally go for a video in doing research and learning. Some expert marketers do article writing but at the same time, putting an additional video at the end of the articles makes it more enticing. This will also drive a lot of visitors attention to stay for a long time. I guess this is important when speaking about bounce rate of your site. |

Video vs Text. Imagine if instead of watching TV they gave us all PDFs of the screenplay to read and imagine the show in silence. Text is great of course but if we can deliver compelling marketing videos that speak to our client's needs they will keep watching just like they are watching a great show. Me personally, I get many times more value by watching a video of someone explaining or showing me something than I do from reading a text. The visual has so many more opportunities to implant a message into my brain (that sticks) than text does. I would have to say that offering a video as well as text would be better than text alone. No need to isolate those who like read as well but even the readers would get something out of a video. With internet speeds increasing around the world video is going to be easier and easier to access. |

Reading is just on old days. Tutorials can now be made using videos and it's more clear and easy to understand. Otherwise, you will keep imagining things what would that be.

I prefer both equally (if that is even possible? :0), also on a different note, when comparing video to text on the same information, it's all about delivery. I've seen too many videos where the people drag on and on and on..... :/ missing the point. And then of course I've read my fair of share of jumbled articles that are poorly organized too.

The only reason I don't like video in the IM world is because people tend to drone on and on about things I don't care about. Either that or they go super slow for the newbies. I recently heard there's a tool for watching web videos at 2x speed which may get me to switch back to video. For the moment I far prefer text.

There is no doubt that seeing a video makes you understand better than reading but yeah sometimes only. I prefer reading because instead understanding anything just as basic I never preferred. I have always believed in complete or having most possible knowledge as less knowledge can harm you and even the one you will share with someday. Reading also creates a kind of inner satisfaction along with there is a advantage with reading that you can look for the meaning of sentences or words you didn't understood while in video mostly you could guesses if the video is a bit difficult to understand.

Usually a video is just a person talking so it might as well be audio. I prefer video because I can read something else while listening to the video. Reading seems sooo old lol |

Video is nice, but some of them go so darn fast it is tough to comprehend what they are talking about or getting at. I find I need to stop backup and pause the video so I can see what is going on a lot of the times. Where text I don't have to worry about that. They are not always written the best either.

It kind of depends on the topic for me. A lot of times I like text only because it is easier to go back and reread then try to rewind a video to find an answer. For shorter "how to", videos are great. |

Reading is a million times better than videos 90% of the time for me. When I read I can spot crap a million miles away, sometimes just from spending 10 seconds reading the first paragraph. Videos have so much filler in it that I often waste 5 minutes just to realize "oh gosh his new revolutionary free traffic method is profile links," in other words something totally useless that I should not have wasted my time on. *cough* I actually remember one WSO video where the maker assumed we were all total newbies and started off explaining how to put in your name in the name field. Erm, excuse me but if we are on the warriorforum buying your WSO we obviously know how to register an account in a forum, okay? Please use your common sense! |

I like reading if its doing research or something that is work related. I like watching videos of cats playing and people doing stupid stuff, not watching a slideshow or hear an article read out in some fake computer voice. |

Im with d0rhk on this one. I would rather wait for the film to come out than read a book but if it is reasearch or learning or SEO blogs etc then I would rather read them than watch a presentation or video.

Some people teach advanced methods while others cater to fresh brand new people. If everyone stopped to explain every little detail every time they explained anything the world would be very boring, no one would move into higher learning and it would probably come to a slow stop. There is beginner's, medium and advanced in everything. You will never get an advanced course to cover the basics and nor should it...that's what the basic courses are for. I doubt anyone really ever thinks they know it all. Some are just teaching more advanced methods. If it's too advanced for you then you have to go and do the basics first. This is a big problem in IM. Everyone thinks everyone knows nothing. Many people know more than the basics and would consider it a waste of time to go back to the start just to learn a new technique or twist on an old method.

The answers here goes to show that BOTH are equally important depending on who is visiting, the mood the person is in, the hurry or no hurry they are in...etc. So if you want a compelling sales page, product review, etc, include a video AND text that is well written and easily "skimmed". |

I may be in the minority here, but I absolutely detest videos. With text, I can easily skim, skip ahead, search for keywords, etc. I find most videos to be unbearably slow and skipping ahead is too unreliable. |

The only thing I've found close is adjusting Windows Media Player settings on audios to increase playback speed 50%, which cuts down on studying time. Not sure if it can do that for videos, though.

READING! I can read very quickly with high retention plus if I want to go back and review one thing, I can go to that page and read just that. I really, really, really do not like videos unless it is in training and they simply go through the steps and show me. If it is something that does not require a step by step demonstration then I much prefer text. As a matter of fact, I was give some great stuff today and instead of text, it was an hour long video so I just closed it. I immediately bounce of any website that has a video playing and no text first. |

Books are great because I exercise my imagination and in a way create my own movie, my own interpretation, within my head based on what is written. Movies are good if I'm feeling lazy in the imagination department or if I'm more interested in what someone else has imagined. But of course I only read or watch something if I think that the story has meaning or is just plain old entertaining. |

I prefer watching videos rather than reading text because video can have a good visual effect. And it is effective because what you see you carefully listen about it.Reading from pdfs and all is the old fashion.waching video is a time saving activity and I found it more effective.

Videos are especially helpful and worthwhile if you can just follow along and replicate the steps for a new process you are trying to learn. |

Personally, I prefer text than videos because texts tend to be more detailed than what videos present. Although, there are occasions where I would fail to visualize exactly what the text pertains to, no matter how many times I re-read it. Having a video as a reinforcement to show what the text means certainly helps clear up the fog.

I prefer it 50/50 except on sales videos, when I go to learn about a product I just want the blood and guts. I don't care where you came from, your trials or tribulations or your long drawn out reasons why your better than everyone else, I can make that decision on my own.
