Try and use as little plugins as possible. Too many will slow it down for sure.

7 Seconds is way longer then usual, so my guess is a Hosting issue. But for the record, how many plugins do you have in use? |

Depends what OP has on the page. Things like javascript & flash will slow a page down when loading. Large chunks of white-space in the source code can be made to run faster with plugins like wp-minify, when you view the source code html, all the white-space will be gone & the code will be very compact, which helps load times run faster. |

Hostgator is a very good web host. So it is problem with your site. You should try installing WP SuperCache plugin to minimize the load on server.

| Same here. Try this OP: first install WPCompressor - same thing as SuperCache but it's not a pain to uninstall Then Deactivate your plugins one by one and go checking here: Pingdom Tools One of them (or two working badly with each other) is creating that huge loading time. No worries, you will find the culprit. Then update us on how it goes. |

You can use the Firebug + PageSpeed addons for Firefox. In this way you can debug the problems with the theme (very common) and with the files with problems. You can debug the problems one by one. You must start the compression from the .htaccess file too.

| That many plugins should not be an issue fo Hostgator. I sometimes run up to 20 plugins. Try using w3-total-cache plugin and wp-optimize plugin. In fact, these are both recommended by Hostgator.

You can use "W3TotalCache" plugin to speed up your site and also use very less number of plugins to your wp site. You can also optimize your images for faster loading.

Yes "W3TotalCache" plugin is a must have plugin for every blogger. You should also use it. I have used the wp optimize plugin to remove bulk comments and also to optimize my database tables. It is a very good plugin also.
