I think I am beginning to find some smart ways to Choose Kws

Normally when I look at the top 10 Google competition on google, I see this

1. most of the sites have 1k, 2k 5k, 10k backlinks to the page
2. most of the sites are high PR, etc

so the conventional wisdom would tell me to
GO TO THE NEXT KW, THIS ONE IS NO GOOD

However one of the things I have been concentrating on this week is determining, IS THIS TRUE,

Are these kws in fact no good? should I just move on

Some of the things I have discovered reading tutorials and talking to other webmasters both on this board and other forums is this

1. What about the onpage SEO of the site? if the site has no onpage SEO the kw in title, url, header, and desc are N N N N (at least on the Market Samurai spreadsheet)..................this means that this kw is definitely NOT being targeted by this site.
This means that despite there being huge number of backlinks and high PR, this kw may in fact be "doable"

2. The backlinks must be analyzed instead of just looking and saying OH THIS SITE HAS TOO MANY BACKLINKS

What are the kws in the anchor text of this site?
If the top ten site, especially is just showing the ROOT domain, this brings up an interesting situation

Lets say the site is www.othersite.com
It is in the #3 position for this kw on the top ten

it is showing 1000 backlinks
ok fine

How many of those backlinks are targeting THIS KEYWORD, thats one question

In other words the anchor text of all those kws, how many of the backlinks have THIS KEYWORD in their anchor text

theoretically, if the site has very poor or NO onpage SEO for this kw, then the anchor text MUST be targeting this kw, otherwise why is google pulling it up? why is this site number 3 for this kw?

So my basic discovery this week is , its not the number of backlinks to the page that count, its the number of backlinks with this kw in the anchor text, that matters (and also the PR of those backlinks)

Also SEOquake is not good for this type of analysis, it just gives total backlinks it wont analyze the PR of backlinks or the anchor text like Market Samurai does

and SEO spyglass you have to enter each url one by one(as far as I know)

You had everything correct except this (above).

Just because a page is ranking #1 in the SERPs, it literally means nothing, until you dig in & start researching everything about the site both on-page & off-page.

I've found keywords that I couldn't believe no other sites were hardcore about trying to own that keyword in the SERPs.

Look at it like this.

When you do a Google search, Google has to return results, that's their sole purpose of existing.

If no site cares about that keyword, or isn't even remotely trying to rank for that keyword, Google still has to return search results, otherwise Google would suck as a search engine.

Just because Google returns 10 results on page #1 in the SERPs means nothing as far as seo, remember Google has to show you some results, it doesn't matter If anyone in the world is trying to rank for that keyword or not, you'll still see 10 results on page #1.

When I research a keyword, I expect the #1 website ranking in Google SERPs to 100% suck at seo, until I can prove myself wrong by doing the research.

You have to look at everything about the #1 site, why are they #1 in the SERPs?

You'll learn to spot things pretty quick when doing enough keyword research. Some things that are signs this site is serious about ranking #1 for this keyword (I think you have this).

1) Is the keyword in his page title in the SERPs?

2) Is the keyword in the URL that is ranking in the SERPs?

3) Run a quick scan of SeoSpyglass for the competition URL that is already ranking #1, sort SeoSpyglass by anchor-text, is this guy still serious about ranking this keyword? You'll know right away when you see that list of anchor-text. If he is serious about the anchor-text, check & see how high are the PRs on the anchor-text.

If all the anchor-text is all PRn/a the keyword is still good to go (he sucks at backlinking).

Doesn't matter If he has 1000 PRn/a crappy links with anchor-text, you can counter that with a dozen PR5-6 backlinks with keyword anchor-text. If that doesn't do the trick get another dozen PR5-6 backlinks (always want anchor-text when possible).

Great on-page seo/planning will help lighten the load for the backlinks that you'll need to be #1 in the SERPs.

If you see someone else acting like they want that keyword, double up on the quality links again, as a safety net, it will buy you some time to figure out what they are up to, are they really serious about taking the keyword from you or not. You don't have to check the keyword everyday (unless it's a proven HUGE money maker ), then I would have to hire a VA to spend 24 hours monitoring the SERPs, lol.

how do you do that?

I know on BMR for example you cannot choose the PR For your link

Actually, its easier than you think. I find them all the time with that kind of pagerank.

Just search for a highly competitive search term in google, briefly browse the backlinks to the site, if it looks like they are actively building links and have a fair number of backlinks, plug them into Seo Spyglass, run a link analysis and then sort the results by page pr.

Look at the pages with the highest pr and determine if you can leave a link, and then leave it. Once you have used up that site, plug another site into spyglass and repeat.

Make sure that you save the successful link pages to an excel spreadsheet for other projects and eventually you will have a nice big list of high pr pages that you can use whenever you want.

I would highly recommend that you use the professional version of seo spyglass as it does not have the limitations that the free version has.

I am fairly sure that Market samurai breaks backlinks down by PR and sorts them and gives the url of the backlink like SEO spyglass does (though it only does 1000 backlinks)

That is a good idea though just go to those high PR urls and try to leave a backlink

Not sure what MS does in terms of analyzing backlinks these days, I can't stand the program myself. But if there is a 1000 limit you could potentially be missing out on some great links because of a stupid filter.

Don't limit yourself to your competition though. Look into very high competition niches where the site owners are going after extremely powerful links by the thousands. I often find anywhere from 20 to 100 pr5+ links per site when I run it through seo spyglass, and it is because I know which niches to look at. Play around with it a bit and you will see what I mean.

Seo spyglass is like a $100 or something, not much for what the program does.

how easy or difficult have you found it to be , to get your site backlinked from these high PR sites you found

I reverse engineered my competition backlinks on my beach resort
half the time i could not even find their link on the site
the other half of the time it appeared the links were either paid links or I sure could not find a place to submit a link

are you looking for certain types of sites? other than just the PR of the site?

Again, it is all about which niche/site you choose to analyze. Look at some of the spam filled niches that are really competitive, think of search terms that most people won't allow you to link too from their blog or website.

Search for a term like "buy viagra" or something, choose one of the top 10 sites with a lot of links and run them through spyglass. Most of their backlinks are going to be blog comments and they always seek out high pr links. Mainly because most blog networks, link networks etc., won't allow pharma related search terms, which means they have to work harder to find links and if they have a link on a page, there is a good chance that you can get a link on that page too.

Thats a good idea choose high ranking viagra sites go find their high PR backlinks and then post on those blogs etc,

How about using scrapbox? Can I use scrapebox to do what seospyglass does?

The thing I like about scraping competitors backlinks is this

if you just go out with scrapebox and find high PR blogs or whatever type sites, to me that seems good however

with competitors backlinks you know that these sites are passing high PR
you dont have to guess

you know that these sites are allowing posts and that they showing up as PR5,6 whatever in the backlink checkers, you know they must be dofollow links etc etc

it seems like it is almost giving a stamp of approval to the sites saying, its ok to backlink from these sites and they give good backlinks

whereas if you just get a list of high PR blogs they might be nofollow, they might be hard to get the comments approved etc

course this is all new to me

seo spyglass fetches more than 1000 K backlinks, its only a matter of settings
