Default Backlinks question

I have a website that only have 5 backlinks according to alexa and 21 backlinks from 10 websites in webmasters tools.

I have built alot of backlinks but they wont show up even though they still exist.

Put most on forums, blogs, imageboards and profiles.

I cant see why the backlinks wont appear, and some backlinks just dissapear even though they still exist.
For example I have a blogspot website that link to my main website, link is there and always been there and was counting before but now it doesnt count anymore.

Also I put backlinks on forum posts and they wont appear. I also edited forum posts and those wont appear.
I tried to link to forum posts with backlinks but they wont appear.

I really want to increase my backlinks since I feel I cant do that much more about my onsite SEO, but it is really sad when I make 100s of backlinks and none appear.

(Unrelated by my website ranks on first and second page for most keywords but for short keywords I get on the 5th page or even further back)

When You submit you backlink you need to check the following
1. is it a Reciprocal Link - you need to put in there link in your blog or website and visa versa.

2. most the backlinks will be submitted for Approval so usually these will take time since they are free. if payed and it appears within 24 hrs.

Please check and let me in case you need any further help

Wish I was organized to record all of my backlink sources for later review.

The reporting tools are not perfect, they don't necessarily spider every post on every forum, Google probably does a more thorough spidering but won't let you know the results.

Like seeds in your garden, not all backlinks are fruitful, just keep planting...

Links from less traveled pages, like forum profiles or posts and tiny blog pages might benefit from being pinged, I use pingler to batch ping rss feeds.

The links isnt Reciprocal Link.
Why does it have to be Reciprocal Link?
I have almost no links going out from my website. Want to keep the traffic on my website.

Submitted for approval? Dont know what you mean. Isnt a backlink accepted if it is showing on a page and google manages to find it, without anyone having to approve it?

---

I did try linking to the posts, forum profiles on my blogspot blog and then ping the post that linked, didnt work.

You CAN do more SEO on your site itself. Try adding a few posts that are related keywords to the main keyword you are trying to rank for.

Then link each of those posts back to the main keyword with anchor text (of the main keyword).

Thank you JRCarson. I have been doing on a few pages that but not with that though.

How many pages is it good to have linking to each keyword? (If it is increased effect with each page I could drop a link to main keyword pages very often, might get negative after a few pages though)
Can they link to several pages (think so, wikipedia does that)?
And should the linking pages have pages linking to them?

If you got any more suggestions please tell me, really appreciate them.

I think that you just need to make sure that every page links to each other within the anchor text in the content at some point or another.

But for me, I try to add a few extra "main keyword" links in MOST (if not all) of my posts that link to the home page, or whatever the "money" page is where I am selling something.

So what happens when that "money keyword" reaches #1 in Google? Then you start adding related posts to one of those other posts to get IT to rank higher. And so on...

The point is, don't forget to just keep adding content to your site, and linking it to itself! People often get caught up in back links, but often content creation would work just as well if not much better.

...and don't worry about a point where it might become negative if you link too much to a certain page. Just think about varying it from time to time and you'll be fine.

At least that's my experience.

I even have links on the home page that link to the home page with the home page anchor text! And that seems to be fine, because a couple of these are #1 in Google.

You might want to consider using opensiteexplorer.org to see if they have the links you built in their index.
I would recommend using a tool like this for your link targeting as well.

If you are serious about building links, this is an invaluable resource...

( I can't post links because I am a new poster. )

I hope this helps.

Ok, Thank you!

Is it actually possible to rank first on competive keywords with internal links and pretty much no backlinks?

Actually this might be the reason why 1 of my pages ranks so good, it feels like a fairly competive keyword but I rank at 1st spot for it at 2 out of 3 of the main searches.
Put a fairly extreme amount of internal links to it considering the amount of pages on my website (just did it to make it visible to my visitors but probably really good for my SEO).

Do your backlink get index? If your backlinks are not index, SE dont count them, and it will be useless. And some website have a lot of internal backlinks, this will help them rank high on Search Engine. You may need works more to beat it.

That website also only shows 5 backlinks. It shows more information though so probably a good website.

xnice
Some of my backlinks just dissapeared after I had them for several weeks (but they still exist).
But most of them I cant get to count at all (read that linking to the posts with a blog and then pinging the blog is a good way but it didnt work when I tried it).

And ye, my main focus will be on internal links now. JRCarson really inspired me.

Again many people screw up their rankings by not SILO'ing their sites correctly
go research this , its sometimes more important than onpage SEO or backlinks to google

Thank you outwest, is it enough to use a SILO seo plugin for wordpress and SILO each category?

Read and watched fast about it, if it is enough with the seo plugin it should be easy.

Two things: 1. google webmaster tools doesn't show all links, 2. building links isn't enough, google has to index them if you want them to effect your site's ranking.

Each search engine has a different algorithm and some of them show all the links they can find and some show only a few of the indexed.

Search engines also start neglecting links after a point from the same page or from a site if the site has too many backlinks to the same domain.
