Hi all. I have a website which is ranked No1. on google.com for its keyword How to get rid of silverfish. The website is How to get rid of Silverfish It is getting over 100 visitors a day - some days over 150 yet it is making very little with Adsense. Does anyone have any ideas how I could improve this? |

Get a big square between the second and third paragraph. In content adsense blocks have worked wonders for me.

Dump the link unit, they do not pay as well and require additional clicks. Next dump the skyscraper banner. Make your site 2 columns. Stretch the text out to 768 and put an image of the silver fish in the banner... in a clever way that makes your site look like an authority site. Them move the pics of the bugs down half way in the content so you can take advantage of the alt tags but not interfere with the adsense blocks. Use a 300 pixel adsense block at the top. And another block at the end of your article. This is clearly a made for adsense site. And on most sites you do not want your text to get too wide because it's harder to read. On your site you want it to be harder to read because you want people to see your Ad and click and go away. That's the way MFA sites should be structured. Here is a good place for color combos. Color Combinations | Color Schemes | Color Palettes I'd also dump the blue URL in the Adsense Ads... I like to keep them the same color as the text... makes them look less like ads when you include them in the content and more like content. Been doing this a very long time and tested the HE__ out of Adsense. And I find this works for me on this type of site. Which I no longer try to build. Good luck. Be sure to set up channels to test and tweek. |

I would invest in a "CTR" focused theme like clickbump or CTR theme.

I get an average of 20% clickthru rate on my site that use a Clickbump theme. I'm averaging about 12% on CTR theme. I limit any distractions from my adsense ads. The CTR theme allows you to do some testing and see what layout converts the best for you. I don't typically use link units since I found they didn't convert well for me. I also set up my adsense links to be the same color as site navigation links so they don't stand out like a sore thumb. I would also get privacy policy and about us on there. |

Thanks everyone - I will give the ideas a try, test and keep trying more. On a side note. The site is ranked No1. for its keyword and the longtails are all in the top 10. How difficult would it be to rank for a different keyword which is related but not really.. for example How to get rid of slugs or How to get rid of ants? Would it be worth me adding the articles to this website under differernt catagories or would it be easier for me to rank with a new domain with an exact match domain? |

Try changing your theme Also it may not be a little - it depends on how much you get paid per click |

That free theme is OK, but not good enough. Change your theme to either one of the following themes, and your click through rate will increase for sure: CTR Theme Slick Adsense Theme ClickBump Not free, but these are the only adsense themes I use and they have worked wonders. |

What is the average time on site? What is your bounce rate? I suggest changing the site's layout. Also, you have way to much ads unit. Just go with the rectangle ad unit. Probably you can have 2, side by side with each other and dump the rest. You site must look helpful to the reader rather than having ads all over the place. |

Its all about ad placement and variety of ads. - Also, I like to stick ad links above a row of pictures. High CTR with those.

Went through every page on your site and from my location there was not one Google ad for silverfish. Might have something to do with it.

The fist thing I would do is change your ads color. The light blue you have blends in with the theme too well. Make your ads blue, not the light blue you have. People associate blue with links. Next change your ad placement. There is no one size fits all solution to this, so you will have to experiment a little. Usually a 336x280 ad before the content is a good way to go. Take those images and place them up top near your ads (at the top somewhere). Peoples eyes are drawn to pictures, and the way you have them makes people skip right by the ads and look at the body of the article where you don't have any ads. Remember, the idea is to make your ads stand out and make people focus on them rather than anything else. ![]() Finally, Test, test, and test. You need to test everything from you color scheme, where your ads are placed, header image, site layout, ect.... There is not a single answer to you problem, so you should test everything and keep tweaking until you start making good money. I hope this helps you out |

Hey brother, You test you themes and your colors and all of that stuff which will maybe get your site up to a few bucks a day (not bad) but the truth is that you chose a poor keyword to begin with. ![]() As you can see in the screenshot, even though your search term gets a decent exact local monthly search volume, the competition bar is extremely low, which indicates that there are very few advertisers bidding on this keyword term. When you select a keyword, it should have at LEAST a halfway full competition bar. If you head over to EzineArticles and view an article containing your keyword (http://ezinearticles.com/?How-to-Get...ish&id=5662556) you can also see that the majority of advertisements are unrelated to getting rid of silverfish. If the ads don't hold the promise of solving your visitors' problem, then they have no incentive to click on your ads. I hope that makes sense and you have better luck with your future websites! Try changing your color scheme, try adding and removing borders around your ads, try different placement on your website. Test everything you can.
