Default How do you find out the search volume for local keywords

I am relatively new to the SEO game and I wanted to know how the experts determine the search volume for local searches. It is easy to find out how many search for a keyword phrase such as "custom suits" but I cannot get any search volume numbers for a search term such as "custom suits st. louis" does anyone have any advice as to how to get this information?

Related to this question, I wanted to know if my example "custom suits" was a relatively good keyword to optimize for (high volume, low cometition) would it be better to optimize for the more global phrase rather then to optimize for the phrase with "St. Louis" included and if yes, will it automatically improve the local rankings as well?
