Default Wordpress post Order - do I have control somehow?

I have a "sticky" post. This sticky post always stays at the very top of all the posts on the homepage.

When I make new posts to the blog, the content is placed below the sticky post on the homepage because I have the settings set to allow 2 posts to show on the homepage.

I would like these two blog posts (the sticky and the other) to stay on the homepage - even after I publish new content. In other words, I want the new content to be published "below" the 2 posts on the homepage.

Can someone tell me how to do this or if it's even possible at all?

Can you not just make the two posts 'sticky' and then allow more than 2 posts on the homepage?
