Keep on pushing, building links and adding quality content and the sites will re-cover.

Hello everybody, I'm happy, because the penalty (my site probably got penalized, it was not plain Google Dance) has been lifted and my site got its rankings back (not as strong as it used to be, but I'm pretty certain I will be able to push upwards in the SERPs pretty quickly now). The penalty lasted 34 days. This probably wouldn't have happened, if Barry hadn't advised me what to improve, OPSEO-wise. Here's what I did: 1) I removed a bad link from my theme's footer, which led to a site selling fake pharmaceuticals. The footer was coded, but I was able to decode it and remove the link. 2) I restructuralized my site. It is a WP blog, but now, the home page only shows a static page instead of excerpts of posts. 3) I made the home page of my site affiliate-link-free - prior to the changes I made, the home page had had as much as 20 outbound aff links leading to various CPA offers - now, it has 0. The home page serves just as a navigation to further inner pages, FROM WHICH I link to the CPA offers. # 3 was I think the most important, too many aff links is a bad sign for Google, don't do it. ![]() Anyway, thanks for all the help from you guys, and especially Barry. |

Congratulations man. To add to the discussion... I find it a little annoying when people say don't rely on Google, because lets face it of we had a brick and mortar business we would just be as susceptible to failure and the possibility of being slapped by our finances, the lack of footfall, marketing campaigns not working and so forth. It's all risk vs reward. |

thanks for your kind words. The site was making about $70/day and I was working at it like 3-4 hours per day, on average. Maybe at the beginning up to 12 hours a day (including learning about the topic it's about, etc.). | |
