One of my blogs got hit hard with spam comments this morning. While going through them and deleting them all, I have to say that this one definitely gave me a good laugh: "The genius store called...and they're running out of you" and "You've got to be kidding me! It's so transparently clear now!" Haha. Wow...That is all. |

That's why you should turn off comments. All comments are spam, no matter how much people say they leave great stuff that adds to the page. They don't. Every comment drags your site down. Why do you want people editing your page and adding content? Beats me. Waters down the real content. Use something like intensedebate if you must. Then, being a script, nothing is seen by search engines. Google keeps telling people this, but nobody listens. There are exceptions, but they are celebrity, news, etc. sites where it just does not matter, run by big sites. Paul |

For my personal blog, I'm not using it to appeal to Google. In fact, I could careless how much traffic it pulls in from Google. I'd rather build that traffic through other websites and other connections online. For my other sites that use Wordpress, I turn off all blog comments. Always have and always will on those, but that's because they serve a different purpose.

There is no reason to allow comments. This is a borderline adsense TOS as well. Remember, the content on your page matters. Why allow people to muddle the content? Sure, if I have a personal-throw-away-blog that I could care less about for rankings and adsense, maybe. But why? Leave that stuff to FB. The perfect place for personal stuff and comments. Paul |

For my personal blog (the one in my sig), I allow comments for discussion purposes. In my opinion, it's worth it. Besides, my personal blog doesn't use Adsense (don't know where that assumption came from), so that wouldn't apply in this case. As I already said above, all of my other websites that use Wordpress do not have comments activated.

Comments also makes the content more dynamic, which I think Google likes as well.
