Submitted "request for reconsideration to Google Webmaster Tools" anyone w/actual experience on this

So my site that has a PR3 and hundreds of content that I built in 2007 suddenly dropped from 3,000 visits a day to just 500/day and it started last week. I thought it must be from 2 paid links that I have in one of my posts that might have caused this (one of them is linking to a bingo site)..They paid me to have their links in one of my posts and google must have found noticed this.

My niche is tattoo and my top two keywords are tattoos and tattoo designs... With the drop in traffic, from $20/day, now I am down to almost zero income from this website...

So I removed the links and submitted a request for reconsideration to google webmater tools...
My question is, have you submitted a request like this before and what results do you have? Also, what did you do to resurrect back your site?

The first thing you should do, or should have done, is make sure that it is a penalty imposed by google and not that you just got pushed back by a competitor or that your sites rankings are dancing around.

So I guess my first question would be, what are you looking at to determine that it was a penalty? Is your site deindexed? How many positions did it lose in rankings? How long have you held the position that it was at?

In regards to the request, the last time I submitted one, which was a couple of years ago I think, it took several weeks to hear back from them. Not sure if they have improved their response time at all since then.

Quick question. How in the world would Google know that those were paid links? Unless you have a big "buy a link here" button, I do not see how they would have any idea that you sold two links.

The request is just for the penalties that are given manually, so they can reconsider it.
If the penalty is automatic (which is what happens in 98% of the cases), you need to wait until the google bot decides that your website is ok, and submitting to the webmaster tool would be useless in that case.

I don't get it. So a site getting 1000s of visitors a day can't sell any advertising on their site?

That doesn't sound like the reason you were penalized.

Well I dont get it too...I was getting 3,000 UV a day and I have a PR 3, the only reason I could think of is the paid link was linking to a bingo site...and I read somewhere here that google does not like you being associated with sites like this...

Right now I am getting only 500 UV a day so I thought I was getting penalized..I lost the ranking for " tattoos" and "tattoo designs"

That site is basically an article/informational site so nothing is really targeted (I use subdomains!) but I did notice its daily pageviews steadily increase since that message from Google.

Sometimes, if I'm unsatisfied with a websites rankings, I will just submit a reconsideration for the hell of it! Lol!
