Hi guys, I've been a member here for a while now and without asking questions I have managed to make some (small amount) of money by promoting physical products, namely on Amazon. Upon doing some keyword research I have found a product that I would like to promote and the keyword 'Product Name Reviews' gets 12,100 exacts per month (local US) and 18,100 global. Now when doing my competition research I can see that; 1 - #1 on Google has just 4 backilinks pointing to this page and they are not high PR/Authority. It also has a PR of 2. 2 - #2 has just 2 backlinks pointing to this site and they are not high PR/Authority, and no PR 3 - #6 - I can see this is another affiliate marketer competing for this keyword (I can tell as he has used a modifier at the end of the keywords in his URL and the site screams IM'er). This site has 135 backlinks, again not high PR and it looks like they are all from autoblogs, like the type Unique Article Wizard submits too to create contextual backlinks. Also this is the only site in the top 10 where the root domain is returned by google for this search term. I.e all other 9 results are to internal pages with content on this product. This page also has no PR. 4 - There are 2 results returned (amazon & youtube) for this keyword which have pagerank. All other with the exception of #1 have n/a pagerank. My thoughts are that I should tackle this niche, and by providing real quality and helpful content, along with high PR backlinks (over time) I should be able to rank well for this highly search for keyword.... What do you guys think? Hope you can help. Thanks in advance |

Hi Lewis What program are you using to get the number of Backlinks.... Google only shows a few if any at all.... Yahoo Site Search is better but not perfect... Fire the domains through and I will run them through Market Samurai to get a better idea of backlink numbers... Thanks James |

What is the onpage SEO look like on your competition? The top sites what is their PR? How many backlinks do they have to the PAGE How many backlinks do they have targeting the kw you are targeting? If they have 1000 backlinks and you are targeting blue widgets and 990 of their backlinks are to Black widgets and only 10 to blue widgets, thats a very relevant piece of information |

So there is definitely not enough information here to make a perfectly accurate answer, but here are my 2 cents: Judging by the link counts and PR's you listed, it seems that you have hit a good keyword, and I think you should go for it. Also, generally, when I see other IMers going for a keyword, it is a sign that the keyword has good potential. After all, it is worth pursuing for them! Your next step should be to examine what sort of links the competing IMer has, and go after them! Good luck. |

That's the game. If what you say is true it appears you have come across a niche where you should be able to compete by creating a site that ads value. Kudos to you. Go make some money! |

Wow thanks for the replies guys. To answer a few questions. The #1 ranked site has just 4 backlinks and a PR of 2. The most amount of backlinks in the top 10 is the other IMers site with 135, I have checked the quality and they don't seem all that high PR but they are mostly anchor text links. these links are all contextual links inside blog posts on many different sites and as i mentioned, they look like something unique article wizard outputs. I have read that these links are the best kind of links? Obviously I can get some of these kind of links via web 2.0 sites etc. In terms of on page SEO. The #1 site looks like a medium sized site but the majority of content looks visitor generated and not SEO targeted. My concern is with the other IMers site and why he's not managed to get to top spot with all those backlinks!! @InternetMarketingIQ - I think you hit the nail on the head there with adding value. I will certainly be assessing the competition and seeing if I can truly add value in this niche. I have a list of other related products that I can review and plenty of forums for info and for traffic generation. Worth a go? |
