Making Comment Stick - And why Most Fail

Marketing is NOT about you... it's about your audience. If you want to make money you have to always remember that there is a real live person on the other end that MUST take an action that is favorable to you in order for you to make money.

People will forget what you do, forget what you say, but they will never forget the way you make them feel. This is true online. You get your one chance to make a first impression and the words you write had better make them feel good about what you are offering... and it better be offering them real value... making what they are doing better or making their lives better some how or you will fail.

Marketing is about PEOPLE.

Sadly most people can read that and will never "get it".

There is NO POINT in placing comments on sites that:

1. Are not Moderated
2. Do not reference the Author/Blogger/Publisher/Product

Comments on blogs that are not moderated become link farms and are quickly devalued if not flagged by filters. So you think you want your site mixed in with all the Viagra spam? Think again.

Comments that do not reference the article will be deleted. Why? Because moderators are people... they quickly see through the crap. You want your comment to stick you need to ADD VALUE to the discussion. It's these moderated blogs where you want your comments because these are the blogs that are being actively maintained. Someone a real person just like you is working to grow their business. When you add value you help them grow their business and who wouldn't want that?

So if you do not have time to read and article and place an insightful useful value adding comment then you won't make any headway in your linking efforts. It's that simple.

I run a network of blogs and sites... started back in 1995, went full time about a decade ago. This is what I do for a living - full time. And I have deleted more comments than could ever count. I do it in batches. I scan the comments to see if anything is in the comment area is related to the topic. And it's a very small percentage. And those are the comments that get approved.

You would think this is common sense, but most people leaving comments are idiots and do not even consider that there is a real human being on the other end that must approve their comment in order for them to get any "link juice".

So the choice is really yours... spend countless hours leaving comments that will never be approved or dumping them on spammy link farms, or join the discussion, ad value and make your efforts stick.

Very true! The two take away from your good post, not new though:

1) Useful Content for your real visitors.
2) Participate positively in your niche and provide solutions to others.

Most importantly is that you are starting a discussion or get involved in it if there is already a discussion going on.
Make your point stand out and don't just rephrase something the others have already said. And also do not comment on old posts, as the moderators will most likely see them as irrelevant and they want the latest news&facts.
