I think i've been going all about it all wrong. How much do you think 10 searches a month could be worth to you? I don't know, which is why i'm asking, but it's go me thinking. Just say you value your articles at $25 dollars. You find a keyword with 10 searches per month, which you could rank for with a few backlinks. Now, over the course of the next year or two, will that article make you more than $25 dollars? Maybe a lot more. |

In terms of risk vs reward the gamble isn't logical at all, but maybe I'm missing something? You should be thinking how can I turn that $25 into as much money as physically possible while limiting the amount of risk I take on, that's it.

given how inaccurate the tools are that determine number of searches per month and even a good bounce rate I'd say maybe a nickel (US 5 cents). Could be more? Sure on a high payout niche but its a crap shoot. If the numbers are that low in the keyword tools it could get ZERO searches per month in real life.

If you're going that far down the long tail route then the keyword stats are pure guesswork. But weave in a few LSI phrases as well and you could easily pick up the ten searches a month for each of quite a few keywords. Then it depends what your potential sale is worth - a few cents on Adsense or a lead that pays hand over fist if you only get one sale a year from it. |

unless it's a product that's up and coming I really wouldn't bother with it. Do your research on the product or company and if it looks promising then rank for it, and reap the benefits. Couldn't hurt!

If you're willing to wait a year to make back the $25, you can probably get rich with these kinds of keywords if you can float the initial investment. I'm actually working on a similar project. I've identified 300 keywords ranging from 10,000 to 100 searches/month (most closer to 100-500), and using conservative estimates for traffic, click through, and click value it's got great potential. Eventually I'll grow the site into 1,000+ pages as I continue to dig in and find quality keywords. Anyway, I'd just remind you that the majority is typically wrong, and if your idea seems crazy or "against the grain" it probably makes sense to give it a shot. |
